“Yeah, boss. I got something this time.”

“Aight, what's up?”

“So, I found somebody who might be feeding David information about Shakaylen, and you’re not gonna believe where this nigga works.”

Marlin opened the envelope and pulled out a photograph, placing it on my desk. I picked it up and looked at the nigga staring back at me.

“Who the fuck is this?”

“His name is Courtney. He works at the same dental office as Shakaylen. And get this, boss. He's David's nephew.”

I looked up from the picture. “His nephew?”

“Yeah. I confirmed the family connection, and I've been looking into his movements and who he's been communicating with.”

“And you got proof he's been giving David information about Kaylen?”

“I got proof they been in contact. Look at this.”

He pulled out a few more photographs along with some printed information and laid everything across my desk.

“These pictures were taken at the dental office. That's Courtney pulling up the employee schedule. At first, I didn't think too much of it because he works there, but then I found out he's been in contact with David. I was able to get records showing they've been communicating, including around the same times Courtney was accessing her schedule.”

I looked over the information, paying close attention to the dates. Marlin had highlighted several calls between Courtney and David, along with the times Courtney had been seen accessing the schedules.

“So, what you're telling me is this nigga has been sitting up in there with Kaylen, feeding his uncle information about her?”

“That's what it's looking like, boss. I haven't confirmed everything he's passed along, but there's enough here to know something ain't right.”

I leaned back in my chair, looking at Courtney's picture again. This shit was starting to piss me the fuck off. I'd been worried about David having somebody following Kaylen around, and now I was finding out the nigga had his own nephew working in the same damn building as her.

“Marlin, I need everything you can find on this nigga. How long he's been working there, where he stays, who he deals with, and how often he's been meeting up with David. I want to know everything.”

“Bet, boss man. I'm already working on it.”

“And don't let him know you're looking into his ass. As far as he's concerned, ain't nobody paying him no attention.”

“I got you.”

“Good. Anything else?”

“Nah, not right now. But if I find something else, you'll be the first to know.”

“Aight. Keep me posted.”

Marlin gathered his paperwork, leaving the copies and Courtney's picture on my desk before heading out. Once the door closed, Kendric looked over at me.

“Bruh, what the fuck is up with this nigga David? Why the hell is he so pressed about getting Kaylen?”

“Bruh, I don't know, but I'm gonna find out.”

“This shit getting weird as fuck. First, the auction, then that SUV following her, and now his nephew already working at her job?”

“Exactly. And that's what got me fucked up. This nigga ain't letting up.”

I picked up Courtney's picture again, studying his face. I didn't know what kind of bullshit David was planning, but I knew one thing. He wasn't about to get his hands on Kaylen. Not while I had something to say about it.

“Whatever he's planning, he better think that shit through,” I said, setting the picture down. “Because I'm not playing with him when it comes to her.”
