“Where you about to go?” she asked, looking up as I made my way toward the kitchen.
I glanced over at her. “Wouldn’t you like to know?”
“Yes, I would, considering I’m about to be cooped up in this damn house by myself.”
“You’ll be alright.”
“No, I won’t.” She sat up and looked at me. “I have a whole fucking life I need to tend to. I have a job I need to get to.”
“That sound like a personal problem, shorty. You might have to call in.”
Her eyes narrowed, and I smirked and kept walking.
She didn’t say anything for a few seconds, just rolled her eyes before looking back down at her phone.
“You know what? You already getting on my damn nerves, and I haven’t even been here a full day yet.”
“And again, that sound like a personal problem.”
I opened the refrigerator, grabbed a bottle of water, and headed for the door before she could start fussing again.
The second I stepped outside, I unlocked my truck and pulled out my phone. I needed one of my men over here while I was gone because I damn sure didn’t trust leaving shorty in my house by herself.
Not because I thought she was going to steal some shit but because she was going to run. And under normal circumstances, I probably would’ve let her.
Her father’s debt had been paid the second I dropped that money on her. Whatever agreement Anthony had with my pops didn’t have shit to do with me.
But last night changed things. Too many motherfuckers had seen her, David included. I knew that nigga, and I knew how motherfuckers in my father’s world moved. Losing a bid didn’t always mean they accepted the loss and went the fuck home. Especially after I had stepped in and embarrassed the fuck out of him in front of everybody.
Until I knew if David was going to take that shit on the chin or turn it into something bigger, shorty wasn’t going nowhere.
She could be mad about that shit all she wanted. I’d rather have her pissed off inside my house than somewhere I couldn’t get to her when shit went left.
I found the number I was looking for and pressed call.
“Yeah, man,” Kendric answered.
“Yo, I need you to do me a favor.”
“Okay, what’s up? You on your way here?”
“Yeah, I’m on my way, but I need you to swing by the house first.”
“Okay…” he dragged out, sounding confused.
“You remember the shorty I told you about last night, right?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I need you to come by the house and keep an eye on her for me. I’m not trying to let her go home right now.”
“Oh, shit.” Kendric laughed. “Don’t tell me you done caught feelings for this girl already.”
“Nigga.” I sucked my teeth.
Here this motherfucker was with this shit again. It was way too fucking early for me to be catching feelings for anybody. Hell, I wasn’t looking for shit in the first place. My money and my business were the only things I was worried about right now.
Getting caught up behind some pussy wasn’t on my list.
