Promised To A Menace

by Keisha J.

My breath caught. He didn’t squeeze or hurt me. He just held me there, his eyes locked on mine while his thumb rested against the side of my neck.

I should’ve pushed his ass away right then. Instead, I just stared back at him.

His tongue dragged slowly across his bottom lip before his eyes dropped to my lips. Then he leaned down and pressed his lips against mine.

That snapped me right the fuck out of whatever little trance I’d been in. I shoved against his chest and pulled back.

“Yo, what the hell!”

“What? What’s going on?” Lha’Kayla asked.

“Nothing.” I cut my eyes at him as I shook my head. “I just wanted to call and let you know where I was.”

“Okay, but am I going to see you again?”

“I don’t know.” I shrugged before realizing she couldn’t even see my ass. “Apparently, that’s up to this asshole.”

“I guess. I’m finna go tell Mama what’s going on, but I’ll call you back.”

“Okay.”

“And be safe.” She paused before her voice got louder. “And, nigga, I don’t know who the fuck you are, but you better not do nothing to my sister.”

His eyebrow lifted.

“Or what?” he asked. “You and yo’ sister both talk a good game. I bet you ain’t big as a flea like her.”

My mouth dropped open.

“Fuck you,” I mouthed at him.

His eyes dropped to my lips before a smirk came right back.

“I bet you wanna do that.”

I rolled my eyes so hard I damn near gave myself a headache before turning my attention back to the phone.

“Anyways, sis, I’ma talk to you later.”

“Okay, sis. Call me.”

“I will.”

The call ended, and I lowered my phone before turning my attention back to him.

“So, you can stand here kissing on me and talking shit to my sister, but are you ever going to tell me your damn name?”

“Cassian.”

His name was different as hell. I couldn’t remember ever meeting anybody with that name before, but for some reason, it fit his aggravating ass.

“Cassian,” I repeated, more to myself than him.

A slight smirk pulled at his lips. He looked entirely too pleased to hear me say his name. I shook my head and then went upstairs. He was so fucking arrogant.

Iwatched as shorty finally turned and headed back upstairs. Once she disappeared, I went back over to the couch, grabbed my drink, and sat down.

This time, I wasn’t drinking no damn wine. I had poured myself some Henny. After the night I’d had, I needed something stronger.
