Their Rejected Queen

Godric glances at Ze’ev, but it’s a look of consideration. “You have more restraint than me. You’re to return once a week to assist with her heats.” I blanch at the order as he adds, “Just don’t get caught. I can’t help you if one of the pack strings you up for trespassing.”

The Outcast seems satisfied with the new arrangement, and he gets off the bed, then covers me with one of the furs. He scratches out a note and slaps it on Godric’s chest on his way out.

He doesn’t look back as he slides between the flaps and then is gone into the night like he’d merely been one of my dreams.

Godric frowns at the note, then crumples it up.

“What… did it say?” I tentatively ask.

I still can’t believe Godric just told Ze’ev to give me oral once a week.

Like it’s no big fucking deal.

Godric tosses the mysterious note into the fire while I’m still reeling.

“Nothing,” he lamely replies in answer to my question.

He stares at the fire before he wavers.

Then he collapses to the ground.

That’s when I realize how injured he is.

The blood all over him isn’t from someone else.

It’s his own.

CHAPTER 21

“Why didn’t you say you were hurt?” I chide Godric as I attempt to roll him over, and fail miserably.

After pulling my pants up, anyway.

The low thrum between my legs has stemmed into a more manageable ache. I can’t believe what just happened was real.

But it isn’t like Godric to fall over in a dead faint. Something is terribly wrong.

Struggling, I push on his shoulder but don’t succeed in moving him. I can’t even roll him over myself.

Why does he have to be so big?

“Why didn’t you say your heats were getting worse?” he grumbles in response.

I bite my lip. “Are you angry?”

Not only did I leave out how much these damned heats were progressing, but he also just found me with Ze’ev in his own bed.

Surely he’s pissed off.

“Ze’ev is an old friend,” he finally admits. “We had a falling out, but I’ll never forget what he did for me. I’m not surprised you chose him.” His brow bunches up as if he’s in pain, then he relaxes. “I won’t kill him, if that’s what you’re worried about.” His eyes roll before he can speak again, and his breathing slows.

“Damn it,” I whisper as I wobble to my feet and hurry to find the healing tonic that Ze’ev had given me. I locate the invisible belt on one of the small tables, then I pull out the correct vial.

Godric seems to regain consciousness as I attempt to turn his head.

He grabs my wrist, then rolls himself over. “Don’t give me that,” he says as if he already knows what I’m trying to do.

“Give you what?” I ask innocently.
