Gritting my teeth, I try not to think too hard about my legs just starting to move of their own accord.
Alpha Command.
Godric is a pureblood Alpha, meaning he can probably make me do anything he wants me to do with his voice alone.
Not good.
I climb the metal steps to the train car and brace myself for whatever might await me inside. But now I have a new mantra to keep me sane.
I’ll find you, sister.
And then we’re all getting the hell out of this place.
CHAPTER 2
It takes a moment for my eyes to adjust to the dim interior of the train car. But once my surroundings come into focus, I’m met with an array of animal furs, wind chimes made of horns and antlers, and a ground-level sitting area with padded fur seating encircling a wooden platform.
I have a strange urge to sort the furs into piles, but I resist.
Godric moves past me, engulfing me in a comforting scent of cedar and smoke. My eyes flutter as I adjust to the gentle atmosphere that’s a stark contrast to the cold ship hull I’d been living inside of.
I flinch as the door behind us shuts with finality.
“Your friend is in the connected suite,” he tells me, making me flash my eyes open. “With the others.”
The train car moves. The wind chimes pleasantly clink together with a woody sound as I sway on my feet.
He’s already made himself comfortable on a blanket of fur and is stretched out. It’s exceptionally hard not to admire his physique when I should be focusing on a way out of here. His lips curl on the side like a smug wolf who has his prey cornered.
A spike of adrenaline reminds me that I’m the prey.
But what he just said registers, and I blink a few times. “There are others?” I ask. We’d been brought in separately, so sending me right over to her doesn’t make sense.
Unless he’d been bringing me in for show and doesn’t actually want me.
My fingernails pinch into my fists as Lord Arwan’s beautiful face takes shape in my mind.
The asshole was just trying to piss off his rival. He isn’t interested in me at all.
A mixture of relief and irritation swarms through me as my jaw flexes.
Godric wraps his hands behind his head. He has the audacity to close his eyes like he’s going to take a nap. “There’s a steam bath connected to the coal car. You can go with her and wash up. I won’t need you until we arrive.”
“What if I don’t want to wash up?” I snap, still standing by the closed door like an idiot.
The train jolts as we must hit some sort of bump, making me waver on my feet before I spread my legs a little to stay upright.
Godric’s lips curl further, as if I’m incredibly amusing to him. He peeks one eye open as he watches me with those amber eyes that seem to glow from within. “We’re heading to your new home, little one. The Blood Moon Pack is full of purebloods, and your intriguing scent will make the younger ones go feral. I did presume you wished to survive your first night.”
“Feral?” I squeak.
And my scent is… intriguing?
He hums, but it comes out more like a growl that vibrates straight through my core. “Your defiance and fear are an intoxicatingly strong aphrodisiac to a wolf, so if you prefer making yourself a beacon to the others, that’s up to you. But I wouldn’t recommend it.” He eyes me up and down. “They’re used to wolf females, who are a bit more… resilient.”
He closes his eyes again, leaving me fuming.
I can be resilient.
