The useless—

“Look at me,” Godric demands.

My body immediately obeys. My head snaps up and he’s over me, his amber eyes bright with fear.

What could possibly frighten the brutal Alpha of the Blood Moon Pack?

Why does he care so much about me?

When I start to shake my head, he cups my face, then he kisses me.

He really kisses me.

It’s not like the nights before where he’s held back. His tongue forces my jaw open and demands that I take his need.

His hands slide down my arms, and then his fingers squeeze. Pain blossoms out through my weak muscles.

“Not so hard, Godric,” Arwan warns.

The Alpha surprises me by loosening his grip.

“I need Arwan here to help us,” Godric growls into my mouth. He kisses me again, deep and hard, before he curls his fingers through my hair and grips it by the roots. I lean back, exposing my throat as my mouth parts. “He’s not working with your brother. Why didn’t you tell me Edward Rinhold was your brother?”

I blink a few times as the haze of desire clouds my thoughts.

“How do you know Edward?” I pant as Godric gives me a moment to breathe. He kisses my neck as my eyelids flutter.

Arwan presses one hand to the small of my back, steadying me. I flinch.

“That’s a long story,” Arwan whispers in my ear. “But I assure you, Liliana, I would have killed him for you if your king hadn’t already.”

My king?

The King of the Elite City doesn’t have a tendency for killing his own people.

What the hell did my brother do?

Delirium falls over me as I try to process the idea of a world without my brother in it, controlling every step I make, every breath I take.

He’s really gone?

“Godric?” I ask. Arwan’s hand is still on me, and I don’t know how to feel about it now.

“He’s telling the truth,” he replies as he nibbles my ear. He pushes my legs apart, then holds my hip to pin me against him. “I will hurt you without him. He needs to give you what I cannot.”

My eyes widen as I stare at Godric. That pain is still in his eyes, but it’s a yearning agony I don’t understand.

“Godric,” I say again. This time his name is a plea.

I want him.

I don’t care what it costs me.

“I will never force a woman,” Arwan says as he removes his hand. “It’s okay, Godric. She’s choosing you. I’ll make sure you don’t hurt her. I’ll stay.”

Why would the Prince of Death allow his clear rival to take what he wants?

Why wouldn’t he just let Godric lose control and watch him split me apart for rejecting him?
