How to Hide a Body for Halloween

I smirk, looking him up and down. “No other way to describe us.”
Val: Evie!! What’s cracking baby? I’m assuming it’s you since you have to find your boothang by like yesterday.
Mariah: Kind of inconsiderate, Val. She can literally die.
Val: She’s been dying this whole year.
Mariah: Yeah but now it can be permanent.
Val: You think she’s dead right now?
Mariah: Probably. I hope the sex was worth it at least.
Evie: I’m not dead.
Val: Huzzah!! She lives!!
Mariah: We were worried when we didn’t hear from you.
“I have a question,” Rowan says, bringing my attention back to him. “Do you recall the witch’s name?”
“No.”
“How they looked?”
“Not really?”
“The location of their store?”
“Couldn’t even tell you if they have a store. We only met at the club.”
He nods slowly, arms crossing over his chest, a look of disappointment settling into the lines of his face. “Yeah, you’re fucked.”
With his words, I start to panic. Because I kind of knew I was screwed, but having someone else say it who is a resident of New Orleans and knows all about this magic crap makes it so much worse.
“What now?” I begin to hyperventilate. “My life is over?”
He shakes his head. “Well, no. It just makes things more complicated.”
“How so?”
“We need to find a witch who can help you.”
“You know witches?”
“I grew up with them.” His jaw tightens, a muscle ticking near his ear. “My mother is a witch.”
“I see it didn’t run in the family,” I say, considering his career choice. “Can she help?”
He drags a hand down his face, like he's already regretting bringing her up. “Yes, but I would rather not get her involved. Her and I…have issues. Plus, she’s out of town.”
“I’m going to die if I don’t break this curse and you’re worried about your mommy issues?”
He narrows his eyes, and for a second I swear the fluorescent light overhead flickers. “You would think you would’ve learned to control that mouth of yours after all these years.”
“I kept putting it as my New Years Resolution, but I failed everytime.”
He rolls his eyes. “Anyways, back to my mom. She keeps tabs on all the witches in town. She has for generations to make sure none steps out of line. We just need to go to her shop and take a look at the book. Good thing she is out of town.”
