“What did I just say?” he pushes. I narrow my eyes on my father. He and I both know I was not listening.

I sigh in defeat. “Now, why do you have to embarrass me like this? I was just thinking of some lawyer stuff.”

He raises a brow. “Some lawyer stuff? Like what?” He is so stubborn. Thank goodness I am nothing like him.

I concede. “Okay, okay. I get it. I’m listening now.”

He smiles at me and starts to speak again, “As I was saying—”

The door bursts open and Valerie stumbles in with an arm around Yirah, trying to keep her upright. Yirah is holding her chest with her face twisted in pain. When they reach me, they both collapse next to my chair. All the other directors stand, confusion echoing on their faces.

Dropping to the floor, I lift Yirah into my arms and desperately ask Valerie, “What the hell is happening to her?” I am panicking so much that I begin to shake. I lift one of my hands holding Yirah and see it covered in blood.

“I don’t know. I found her like this in a hallway. I didn’t know what to do so I brought her to you,” Valerie says, her voice slightly shaking. I have never seen Valerie anything but fierce. But in this moment, she is terrified.

Yirah looks into my eyes, her own golden brown irises brighter than usual. She whispers one word as her chest bursts open.

“God.”

A burst of energy blasts out of her, throwing everyone violently. My back hits the wall with a loud crack and I fall to the ground, my face smacking the floor. Feeling blood drip down my nose, I pinch it in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

Groaning in pain, I try to sit up when Aiden appears next to me, probably feeling my pain through our bond. He gently lifts me to my feet.

“What the hell happened?” Aiden asks as he checks for injuries all over my body. He grasps my face, wiping away the blood from my nose. Looking down at everyone, I let out a string of curses when I realize everyone but me is unconscious.

I turn and point to Yirah who’s unmoving on the ground. “I don’t know. Yirah said ‘God’ then a burst of energy came out of her, and we all went flying,” I reply.

He squints his eyes in confusion. “Why did she say ‘God?’”

Sometimes I have to keep my attitude in check. I want to tell him that if I knew, wouldn’t I have said it? Luckily for him, now is not the time nor the place.

So instead, I start to say, “I don’t know—"

“That would be me,” an unrecognizable voice replies to the question that was not directed at them.

We turn towards the voice and standing there is a man—as naked as Adam and Eve before they ate the apple—leaning against the wall with his arms crossed. I slap away Aiden’s hand that is attempting to cover my eyes.

Holy shit.

He is breathtaking in every way—creamy, rich dark skin, damn near seven feet tall, and a full beard. But it is his eyes that have me holding my breath. They aren't dark brown. They are pitch black and they are terrifying to look into. But I can’t look away. However, that fear does not stop me from opening my mouth.

“First, why the hell are you naked?” I mean I don’t mind the show, especially since it’s free.

He looks down then back to me with a smirk. “I haven’t been in my physical form for what feels like a thousand years. But that could be off.”

“And that brings me to my second question. Who the fuck are you?” I demand, angry that he may not only be the reason my best friend is knocked out cold on the ground, but also the reason my suit is ruined.

“Well, darling,” his grin widens, showing his perfect white teeth, “I’m God.”

Well, shit.
