I left the bathroom and stopped when I saw Ares standing near the doorway, watching me.

I hated how much he watched me.

Sunlight poured through the balcony doors behind him and hit me directly in the head. I walked across the room and slammed the curtains closed.

“I’m sick, and I want soda,” I muttered without giving him much attention.

“We’ll get you soda,” he said. “But nothing else.”

His calm ass was pissing me off.

“Nothing else?” I turned toward him. “You drugged me?”

“Yup.”

There was no apology in his answer and no judgment on his face either. Somehow, that irritated me more.

“You think because you signed a contract, you own me?”

“Yup.”

“You’re gross.”

He came closer. “You haven’t eaten, so your nurse is going to give you more IV fluids.”

“I don’t want that.”

“The doctor said you’re dehydrated.”

“You don’t know what I need.”

“I know you’re shaking because you’re hungry.”

I looked down at my hands and saw the tremors I had been trying to ignore. I balled them into fists before looking back at him.

“I’m leaving.”

“You can’t.”

I walked past him and grabbed the door handle. To my surprise, it turned.

I looked over my shoulder at him.

“Try it.”

That was all I needed to hear.

I took off down the hallway barefoot. Security was posted outside the suite, and they immediately moved when they saw me running.

“Arrêtez-la,” one of them called.

“Non,” Ares said from somewhere behind me. “Laissez-la courir.”

Let her run.

I didn’t waste time looking back.

I flew down the staircase, and for a few seconds my body remembered something my mind had forgotten. I used to run track in high school and college before drugs became more important than everything I had once been good at.
