Unease stirred in my stomach. Would he meet me there?

“I’m sure Meems will shoo you into the living room to put your feet up before she stuffs you full of food. You’ll be good as new before we leave here tonight.”

I gave a happy moan. “The overindulgence will be real.”

“Yeah, you didn’t eat much at lunch.” He was back to peering at me in concern as the tires ground around the last curve of the lane before the house came into view.

Crimson Crows were meeting tonight to vote on patching in Pyke. Since things had been calm for the last four weeks, they’d shifted from focusing on missions to amping up their army.

Preparing before things turned wild again.

It was always a big deal, bringing a prospect into the fold.

Revealing to them who the Crows really were. Trusting them to hold that secret.

“You worry too much,” I told him with a grin.

“You think I’m gonna stop when it comes to you?” He reached over and squeezed the top of my thigh.

Tingles lashed up my leg.

Warm and buzzy.

“Not in this lifetime.”

“That’s for fucking sure because you have me for every single one of those days.”

My heart fluttered and danced, and that joy compounded as we pulled to a stop in front of the house and Brinley came bounding out with Kai in her arms.

I tossed open my door to her shout, “Elena in the house!”

“Wena, house.” Kai pointed a thrilled finger at me, his pumpkin nose all scrunched up in excitement.

My spirit flailed. Thrashed and whispered.

I could barely breathe.

Trevan rounded to me, and he set his hand at the small of my back. Different than he did when we were in private. Still trying to play it off that nothing had changed between us.

Still, he leaned in and mumbled at my ear, “What’s going on with you?”

We didn’t come close to having time to explore it before Silas stepped out behind Brinley.

Trevan shifted away a fraction.

A prickle of hurt spiked my conscience.

Like he sensed it—felt it—he angled back toward me and scratched his nails into the fabric of my shirt in the same spot.

A promise.

Soon.

I’m not going anywhere.

It’s you and me.

Just give me a minute to figure this out.
