Immediately, I squeezed my eyes shut and stuffed the heels of my hands into them.
“What kind of masochist would pick sheer drapes? Someone put me out of my misery,” I mumbled to myself.
“That’s the plan.” The grumbly voice coming from the doorway had my head darting that way.
A blade of pain pierced through my brain.
“Ahh.”
I shoved my hand deeper into one eye while the other peered out through a slit at the beast of a man standing just inside my room.
Holding the cute tray Meems had given me as a housewarming gift. Atop it was a cup of tea, toast, and a glass filled with fizzy, bubbly water.
“Alka-Seltzer to the rescue,” Trevan sang as he stepped into the room.
I frowned, no clue what in the world he was talking about.
When he saw my confusion, Trevan let go of a wry, self-disparaging chuckle.
“Way to remind me how much older I am than you. Old commercial,” he explained as he stepped up to the side of my bed.
My bed where the covers were heaped and tangled.
Tiny prickles of memories pushed in from the perimeter of my perception.
The cool rag.
Him holding my hair in the bathroom while I puked.
Arms tight around me all night.
Murmurs of praise and adoration and love whispered into my ear.
I blinked them away.
Note to self: Drink enough alcohol and apparently you hallucinate.
“Think you can sit up?”
“Can I sit up? Probably. Without puking? Not so sure,” I said as I tossed back the covers.
Soft concern skated the mote-addled air. “We’ll see if we can fix that.”
“Thank God because otherwise I think I might die. This is awful.”
I pushed up to sitting. Lightheadedness nearly knocked me to the side, right as a punch of nausea churned my stomach.
Somehow, through the self-inflicted torment, I noticed that I wasn’t wearing the dress I had on last night and was now swimming in an oversized tee.
Great.
Trevan had dressed me, too.
“Easy,” he warned as he situated the tray onto my lap. “Drink the Alka-Seltzer first. It’s pretty much a miracle.”
I eyed it in speculation. “Are you sure it’s not going to make me puke my guts up all over again?”
“Believe me when I tell you I don’t want to put either of us through that misery.”
