“Okay,” she said, rising with him and taking his hand.

“Once Noah gets out, I’m going to have a bit of a wrap party for the track,” Cam said, glancing at her. “Will you come?”

She followed him toward the door, still holding onto him. She didn’t want to let go. “Of course. I wouldn’t miss it.”

He opened the door and made to go through but she tugged him back gently and brought him into a kiss. “I’m sorry,” she murmured against his lips. “I couldn’t resist one last time.”

He smiled. “You can have as many last times as you want.” He kissed her again slowly and Nina was a hair’s breadth from going back on everything she’d just said. But then he pulled away. “I’ll call you about the party.” Then he walked around the corner and out of sight.

Nina closed the door and leaned against it with a sigh. Have I just made the biggest mistake of my life? She wandered over and flopped onto the bed. This was typical of her, so bloody cautious. Too frightened to go for the big job in LA. Too scared to have a spontaneous affair with the hottest DJ in the world. I need to get a life.

He’d told her that he’d liked her back at university and he’d clearly remembered her when Isla had told him she was coming out to Ibiza. How could someone as remarkable as him be interested in someone as ordinary as her?

She took out her phone with half a notion to call him on impulse and tell him she’d changed her mind, but it started ringing as she lifted it. It was a video call from Ash.

Nina felt weird about answering it. What was she going to say? ‘You know how you never really liked your boyfriend and cheated on him pretty much the whole time? Well, we’ve just been fooling around in my hotel room. Hope that’s okay.’

But no doubt Ash needed a friend right now and Nina did have a major soft spot for her, so she answered. “Hey, Ash.”

“Nina, I’m so sorry you had to see that,” Ash said, her face pale. “I know I’ve been a total bitch.”

Nina shook her head. “You aren’t a bitch. And you don’t need to apologise to me.”

Ash sighed. “I wish I was a good person like you. You make drugs to save people’s lives and you’d never cheat on your boyfriend with your ex.”

A wave of guilt washed over Nina. Cam might have broken up with Ash prior to their entanglement, but it was only an hour beforehand. “None of us is perfect. We all make mistakes.” Nina paused. “What are you going to do now?” Please don’t say you’re staying with Zac.

“I’m not sure,” Ash said. “I’m going to think about it. I’ll stay with Zac tonight then get my stuff from the villa tomorrow.”

Nina grappled with whether or not to speak her mind. She decided she might as well. She had nothing to lose and she wanted Ash to make the right choice. “I know it’s not my place to say, but you can do better than him, Ash.”

Ash swallowed. “I just need to work out some stuff.”

Nina nodded.

Ash sighed. “Sometimes my acting on impulse backfires. I know you think you’re too cautious but, honestly, it’s the best thing.”

“Is that how it started, on impulse?” Nina asked. Then she checked herself. “You don’t have to answer that. It’s none of my business.”

“That’s okay,” Ash said. “Yeah. I’d seen Zac a couple of times on Ibiza and it brought back some old feelings. Logan was busy, and we never spent any time together. I felt like things might be on their way out for us.” She sighed again. “It’s hard being the girlfriend of a guy who’s either onstage or in his studio. I need company. I like being around other people.”

“I understand,” Nina said gently. Cameron was an introvert at heart and being alone recharged him after the draining process of performing, even though he enjoyed it. Ash was clearly an extrovert and needed others around her to feel content. “Is there anything I can do to help?”

“I appreciate that, but it’s okay,” said Ash.

“Give me a call if you think of anything,” Nina said.

Ash nodded. “Thank you.” She paused. “Can you do me one favour, though?”

“Of course,” Nina said.

“Look out for Cameron,” Ash said.

The significance of Ash finally using his real name wasn’t lost on Nina. She nodded. “I will.”

Ash smiled. “You’re much more his type than I ever was anyway. Maybe something will happen with you guys.”

The blood drained from Nina’s face. She didn’t know what to say.
