“Perfect. Get us the name and we’ll go there. Right, Theo?”

Fee, Ruby, Rafe and half the town waited for his answer. He couldn’t say no.

Even though the idea of going on a road trip alone with Fee to some kind of cozy cabin retreat sounded like an absolutely terrible idea that would for sure only end in disaster.

But hell.

He was here now.

And somehow, being away from his pack for a year still hadn’t cured him of his need to convince his family that he wasn’t the completely superfluous third son. What better way to prove to his brother that he was worth something.

Help find the seer.

Prove to Rafe he wasn’t a fuck-up.

Try not to fall deeper in love with his best friend.

Piece of cake.

“Sure. Yeah, of course we’ll go.”

Sounds fun.

Chapter Four

Fee’s Aunt Gert was conspicuously absent from the impromptu town meeting at the bar. Which Fee found odd. Her Aunt Gert loved this town, protected it fiercely. So why wasn’t she there?

“I think I should pop over to my aunt’s diner before we leave for our little trip.”

“Okay, sure. I’m going home to pack a bag. I’ll meet you at yours in an hour.”

Fee could feel Theo’s gaze on her as she walked across the street to Gert’s diner. It was definitely not her smartest idea to volunteer to take a road trip with Theo. How she would survive hours alone with him in a confined space was beyond her. But they had to help Lena.

Phoebe had only met the woman a few times, but she liked her. She was sweet and quirky, and stronger than anyone gave her credit for. And as much as she doubted it was possible, Fee was still holding on to the hope that Lena was out there somewhere on her own terms, that she hadn’t been scooped up by one or the other werewolf pack lurking around this town.

And if she and Theo could track her down and put Ruby’s mind at ease, then that would be great.

And if that required her to spend extra time with her distractingly sexy best friend, then that was just something she’d have to deal with.

Poor her.

The diner was packed when she walked in.

Apparently, she was not the only person to go from the town meeting to the one place in town that sold cheap coffee and stacks of breakfast meats. Not that Fee would be partaking in the latter. She never ate anything with a face.

A fact that made Theo laugh so hard when she told him that he had tears running down his cheeks and could barely breathe. Sometimes they were so different she didn’t know how she ever thought they could be more than friends.

It was a foolish thought.

A foolish, intrusive thought she had at least ten times a day.

“Grab a seat, hun,” Mabel said, rushing past her with a tray piled high with plates. “Everyone’s fueling up before the search parties head out.”

“Thanks,” Fee said, grabbing the last seat at the counter. She scanned the crowded restaurant for her aunt. She caught a glimpse of Gert’s silver hair as she zipped through the tables. Fee would have to wait for her to work her way back to the counter before she could talk to her.

She ordered a coffee and a bowl of Gert’s homemade granola while she waited.

It didn’t take long for the diner to start to empty out. Everyone was on a mission, and they were in a hurry to get started. Snow was predicted in the next few days and no one wanted to search for a missing girl in the middle of a snowstorm.
