“Listen to you explain why you led me around by my dick for the past week? You knew I would follow you around like a goddamn puppy and it worked perfectly. I followed you, didn’t I? I made a complete fucking fool of myself following you.”

“It wasn’t like that. I thought I was helping.”

“Helping? Helping who, Fee? My brother?”

“Helping all of us. If you just listen to him, Theo. He’s going to buy your land. The pack will own it, and everything will change, and the nymphs—”

“Save it, Fee.” His body shook. He clenched his fists at his sides. “How well do you know him? Did you fuck him, too?”

Her eyes widened. “Of course not! Jesus, Theo. I barely know him, I just—”

“Exactly! You barely know him. Well, I do know him. And he’s a fucking bastard, always has been. He tried to kill me, Fee. He wanted me dead. But you chose him over me. You—” His voice broke.

Phoebe chose Knox over him. She put her trust in the man who nearly murdered him.

“Please, Theo.” She put her hand on his chest, and he wished she would just reach in and rip his heart out. It would be easier than this.

“You let me walk back into the pack like I was helping, like I was on some kind of noble mission to find the seer. And all along you knew exactly where she was. Do they all know, too? Does my whole pack know what a fucking fool I am?”

Fee shook her head, tears falling from her eyes. “No, I don’t think so. I don’t think Knox wanted them to know yet.”

His stomach churned with the thought of his pack mocking him behind his back. Useless Theo thinks he’s here to stop the Alpha, but he’s really just chasing his little nymph in circles.

Theo scoffed, swallowing his shame.

“You’re not a seer, Fee, but do you see what’s coming? For us?”

“I—”

“Because I don’t see how we can recover from this.”

“But Theo—”

A new thought tore through him. “Last night. I wanted to go search but you said we should stay. You dared me…”

Fee was shaking her head, the tears falling faster now, but he couldn’t stop, he didn’t care that he was hurting her. She deserved to feel all the pain he did right now.

“You dared me to fuck you, and it was all just a distraction. A lie.”

“No! It wasn’t a lie. I wanted you, Theo.”

“Well, you had me. I hope it was good for you, Fee, because I’m done.” He turned to go, to shift, to run, but Fee grabbed his arm, her little nails digging into his flesh.

“You led me around, too. For a year I’ve been waiting for you to finally … to finally…”

He froze, his heartbeat an angry frenzy in his chest. “Say it, Fee.”

Her eyes blazed with fury, her chest rising and falling with every breath. “To claim me as yours! I’m your Mate! When will you admit it?”

Theo chuckled, the sound low and mean and broken. His Mate. What a fucking joke. How dare she throw that in his face now? Like she’d ever wanted it before, like she hadn’t told him for years that nymphs didn’t work that way.

Apparently, nothing she said was the truth.

“You know Mates aren’t real, Fee.”

“Bullshit,” she growled. “I know you feel it. You always have. And I gave you time. I gave you space. I waited for you!”

Waited for him. Ha! She’d flitted in and out his life while he tried to make up for hurting her without ever knowing if she’d return.
