“There's conditions she demanded.”
Blaire tenses again. “Of course there are.”
“She wants more phone calls. And if it's mine, she wants me to take parenting classes with her.”
Blaire blinks. “Parenting classes? You already took parenting classes.”
“I told her that.”
“What did she say?”
“That those were four years ago and this is a different child.”
Blaire's mouth twitches.
I roll my eyes. “There's no way it's mine. This whole thing has been a fucking waste of my time. She's stalling the test because she knows it's not mine.”
“You don't know that.”
“I know when I slept with her.”
“And doctors gave her a window that includes you.”
“Barely.” I scoff.
“But it includes you.”
I exhale sharply. “She knows it's not mine.”
She squeezing my bicep in what I’m sure is a gesture meant to comfort me. “A few more weeks and we'll know for certain”
Theo's cries have faded into occasional hiccups behind us.
Blaire looks over at the clock. “Okay, buddy. Time-out's over.”
Theo is on his feet instantly, running straight for me.
I catch him automatically.
His arms lock around my neck, legs wrapping around my waist while he buries his wet face against my shoulder.
I rub his back, letting him calm down for a minute.
Then I pull back enough to see his face.
“Hey.”
His eyes stay down.
“What do you need to do?”
His mouth twists. “I don't know.”
“Yes, you do.”
His eyes flick toward Blaire.
“You need to say sorry.”
