“Wonderful. I'll have Angela send you the details. And Delaney?”
“Yes?”
“Bring your manuscript if you're comfortable sharing it. I'd love to take a look.”
I forget how to breathe. “Of course.”
“Looking forward to seeing you.”
The call ends.
I stare at my phone.
Bishop sets two glasses of banana and peanut butter shakes on the counter.
“Becks?”
I look up.
“That was Beau Montgomery.”
His eyebrows rise. “The publishing guy?”
I nod.
“He wants me to come in for a meeting.”
“About your book?”
“About a job.”
Bishop goes still. “A job?”
“In New York.”
For one brief second, something crosses his face.
So quickly I might have imagined it.
Then he smiles.
A real smile.
“Delaney, that's incredible.”
I laugh nervously. “Right?”
“Are you kidding? That's huge.”
He comes around the counter and pulls me into his arms.
I wrap mine around his waist.
“I'm proud of you, Becks.”
I close my eyes.
The words feel wonderful.
