Easy. Problem solved. That’s what I do.

Find the open man.

Make the pass.

Fix the problem.

By the time Beckett leaves the hotel bar, I've handled everything. Laney has somewhere safe to stay.

I’ve done my good deed.

And by the time I get home, she’ll probably already have a dozen apartments lined up.

Two wins in one night.

Besides, it’s only Baby Becks. How much trouble could she possibly be?

CHAPTER FOUR

DELANEY

“Holy freakin’ cannoli!” I stand just inside the doorway, my eyes laser beams as I scan the open floor plan. “This is beyond huge.” I glance back at Henry, who is trying to hide an amused smile.

Huge doesn’t even do this place justice. I mean, I’m pretty sure his couch could comfortably seat an entire hockey team. And what is with all the throw pillows? It’s ridiculous how many are layered on his massive U-shaped sectional.

“Mr. Bishop said to make yourself at home.”

“Oh, I will.” I can’t help but grin from ear to ear.

I really need to chill.

I clear my throat and nod. “I mean, I’ll try to. Anything is better than the haunted hotel.”

“Agree.” Henry gave me one curt nod.

“Oh!” I spin around towards him. “So you know the hotel?”

“Indeed.” Henry pats his jacket, reaches in, and pulls out a Werther’s Original. “Want one?”

I blink at the candy in his palm. “Do you just carry those around?

“One should always be prepared.”

“For a caramel emergency?” I chuckle.

“Among other things.” He nudges his hand out further for me to take.

“Noted.” I accept the candy with a smile.

After the night in the haunted hotel, you would think this would freak me out, but Henry seems pretty harmless. I mean, he’s a doorman who is probably in his seventies, with perfectly combed silver hair, an immaculate dark suit, and the kind of posture that makes me feel like I need to stand straighter. This guy isn’t dangerous. He’s giving off harmless book character vibes rather than serial killer vibes.

“You know what, Henry?” I offer my hand to him. “I like you.”

Henry takes my hand and gives it a very eager shake. “Feelings are mutual, Miss.” He returns my smile, and it drops when an agitated meow comes from the carrier beside my feet.

We both glance down. “Umm, about pets in the building…”

“It’s up to each owner, but I’m afraid we would need Mr. Bishop to fill out some forms, vet records, and such.”
