“Don't start.”
I smile into my glass.
Avery steers me toward the silent auction displays, where we spend the next few minutes admiring things neither of us intends to bid on. We're studying a weekend getaway package when a familiar voice calls my name.
“Delaney Beckett?”
I turn.
The man approaching us is tall, with dark blonde hair, a strong jaw, and the kind of polished good looks that make a tuxedo seem like an everyday wardrobe choice.
I recognize him a second before he reaches us. “Ben Hamilton?”
His smile widens. “Well, I'll be damned. Look at you.”
I laugh as he leans in for a brief hug. “It's been forever.”
“Seven years, give or take. Last time I saw you, your dad was throwing a party for those two boys of his getting drafted.”
“That sounds about right.”
Ben has been Bishop and Declan's agent for years. I remember meeting him around the time they signed their first professional contracts, though back then I was more interested in Bishop leaving for Chicago than in the people managing his career.
“How's Coach?” he asks.
“Still coaching. Still convinced he knows more about hockey than everyone else.”
Ben chuckles. “Some things never change.”
A woman steps up beside him, and oh, wow. She's stunning. Long golden-blond hair falls in loose waves over one shoulder, framing a bright smile and delicate features. Her floor-length red gown shimmers with every move.
“This is my wife, Alexa,” Ben says. “Alexa, Delaney Beckett. Declan's little sister.”
“It's so nice to meet you,” Alexa says warmly.
“You too. And I have to tell you; your dress is gorgeous.”
She glances down with a smile.
“Thank you! Yours is beautiful, too.”
I introduce Avery, and we chat for a few minutes before Ben looks toward the players.
“So, Bishop finally talked you into coming to one of these things? Beckett’s not here, is he?” He looks around.
“Something like that. And nope. He’s on the road this week, I think.” I’m slightly embarrassed that I know way more about the Phoenixes' schedule lately than the Archers do.
“Good. Bishop could use someone who keeps him on his toes.”
“Oh, I try.”
Ben laughs. “Trust me. I've represented him long enough to know it's a full-time job. Tell your brother hello for me.”
When they move on to greet another couple, Avery turns toward me. “What a gorgeous couple.”
“He's Bishop's agent, Declan and Mercer's too.”
“Of course he is.”
