Hart stood behind the kitchen island, glaring at a tablet screen with a stylus tucked behind his ear. He glanced up when I entered and smiled.
“Hey, Sugar.”
“Hey.”
“Come here.”
I approached the island, and he leaned across it to kiss me.
“How was your day?”
“Good.” I looked around again. “Did you rob a grocery store?”
“No.”
“Are you sure?”
“Vera.”
“Because I feel like I should be checking the news for reports of a missing produce truck.”
He chuckled and returned his attention to the screen. “If I were to steal anything, it would be an armored truck carrying loads of cash, not a produce truck full of potatoes.”
“I’d be your getaway driver,” I offered, stealing an apple from a box.
“We wouldn’t survive your driving. Put that back.”
I rolled my eyes and returned the fruit. “We would definitely survive.”
“Sure thing, Sugar.”
“What’s going on? Are these donations for the food bank? Are we still going on our date?”
“We are, after I take care of this.”
I narrowed my eyes. “What is this?”
He finally put his tablet down and looked at me. “You remember the single mothers I told you about that I help out?”
My heart danced in my chest before he could finish. “Yeah… I remember.”
“We’re going to deliver these Thanksgiving boxes to them.”
My eyes swept over the boxes of food, and suddenly, the jokes about stolen produce trucks weren’t so funny anymore. These weren’t just groceries. They were Thanksgiving dinners for women who, like Hart’s mother, were doing the best they could, and the man I loved was making sure that, at least for one day, they had one less thing to worry about.
My throat tightened with emotion. “That’s… that’s beautiful, Sweet Hart.”
A small smile tugged at the corner of his mouth. “I know. They deserve it.”
I rounded the island and opened my arms. I squealed when he unexpectedly picked me up and kissed me like we had spent four months apart instead of four days. The kiss deepened, and a soft moan from him activated my pussy. But somehow, I managed to pull away.
“Put me down, Sweet Hart, or we’ll never make it out of here.”
He cleared his throat and set me on my feet. “Right. I’m gonna finish up. Your gift is on the bed.”
“It’s not ridiculous, is it?”
“Snoh approved of it.”
