“Good,” she said, nodding as if she just knew she was off the hook. She set the lotion on the nightstand and scooted to the foot of the bed. “Are you tired?” she asked suggestively.
I smirked and approached her. “No. You?” I asked, standing between her parted thighs.
“That depends on you,” she said flirtatiously, shifting closer. She tilted her face up toward mine, and against my better judgment, I met her halfway.
The kiss was slow and unhurried. She smiled into it, thinking she was winning and getting her way.
“So…,” she whispered when we finally pulled apart.
“So.”
Her hand slid under my shirt, trailing over my abs before making a U-turn, heading south. Her fingers dipped into my joggers and slipped into my boxers. I grabbed her wrist before she could wrap her skilled fingers around me.
She blinked repeatedly, and a crease appeared between her brows. “You good, Hart?”
“No.”
“…No?”
“You don’t get to play with my emotions and then fuck me.”
She closed her eyes with a heavy sigh. “Hart.”
“Grab your pillow and follow me.”
Her eyes snapped open. “Where?”
“To the guest room.”
Vera’s head jerked back like I slapped her in the face. “Are you serious?”
“Yeah… you’re not sleeping with me tonight.”
“Are you serious?”
“You said that already.”
“Okay. I’m sorry for misleading you earlier and making you believe Kandace was a man.”
She sounded genuine, but the apology came a few hours too late.
“Thank you for apologizing. Let’s go.”
Vera stared at me for several seconds, waiting for me to change my mind. Eventually, she huffed in frustration, crawled across the bed, and snatched her pillow from her side. “I can’t believe you’re punishing me like this.”
“It’s not punishment,” I said, following her out of the bedroom. “It’s accountability.”
“You sound like somebody’s therapist.”
I stopped outside the guest room, wrapped my hand around the doorknob, and pushed it open. I immediately wished I hadn’t. The room was dim except for the bedside lamp, and Monica, Marlon, and Christiansen were… involved.
Not necessarily in that order.
Three pairs of eyes landed on us, and I slowly closed the door.
“So—”
“Don’t,” I whispered.
