Rise of the Reborn Beta

“Silver Moon has stood for generations,” he continues. “Then Rylan begins dismantling the systems that kept us strong, threatening Elders, questioning ranked families, and suddenly rogues are attacking our territory.”

A shewolf shakes her head. “Alpha Rylan is out there fighting for us right now.”

“I didn’t say he wasn’t.”

“You’re blaming him.”

“I’m asking whether we’re moving in the right direction.”

Luna Selena turns, but the Elder continues before she reaches him.

“Perhaps Ronan would have been the better choice after all. Maybe Silver Moon chose the wrong brother.”

Luna Selena’s eyes glow. My wolf immediately rises in answer, but not because I can hear Luna Selena’s Lycan. I don’t need to. Her mate is somewhere outside fighting to protect this pack, and an Elder is standing inside the safety Rylan provided questioning whether he deserves to be Alpha.

If someone did that to Darian, I’d be furious too.

I have it, Luna. All of it.

Luna Selena’s glowing eyes flick toward me. She takes a slow breath before walking toward the Elder. The conversations around him begin dying as wolves notice their Luna approaching.

He finally sees her, and his face changes. “Luna.”

Luna Selena stops in front of him. “You believe Ronan should have been Alpha?”

“I was only expressing concern.”

“No. You said perhaps Ronan would have been the better choice. Then you said Silver Moon may have chosen the wrong brother.”

His mouth opens, but Luna Selena doesn’t raise her voice.

“If that’s truly what you believe, I can contact the Lycan Councilmen who were present for our Alpha ceremony and oversaw Rylan’s ascension. You can repeat exactly what you just said to them.”

The Elder’s face pales. “Luna, that’s unnecessary.”

“Why?”

“We’re under attack. Everyone is afraid. Emotions are high.”

“They seemed quite settled when you were speaking.”

“I may have chosen my words poorly.” His eyes dart toward the wolves around him. “I spoke out of fear. I certainly wasn’t suggesting Alpha Rylan isn’t our rightful Alpha.”

I step forward. “Don’t worry, Luna. I recorded it.”

The Elder looks at me.

I tap the side of my glasses. “I have the entire conversation. I’ll send it to you now.”

He sucks in a deep breath and holds it. His eyes widen as his gaze fixes on my glasses. I send the recording to Luna Selena.

“Luna, I apologize.”

Luna Selena stares at him for several seconds. “You can tell that to the Alpha when he returns.”

I bite the inside of my cheek as Jasmin’s pen starts moving again.

Got him, she says through our private link.
