“Safe rooms are through those halls. Keep moving. Don’t block the entrances.” Luna Selena points another group in the right direction before turning to help an elderly shewolf. “Pups first. Omegas and Werewolf Humans stay with your assigned groups. Anyone injured, let someone know immediately.”

Jasmin moves through the crowd beside her, helping another Elder while answering questions from frightened pack members. Neither of them looks panicked. Luna Selena’s attention seems to be everywhere at once.

Darian’s hand settles against my back as we move deeper into the pack house. We reach one of the safe areas, and only then does he lower Damian to his feet. He crouches in front of our son and says, “Stay with Mommy.”

Damian nods. Darian kisses his forehead before turning to Darlene. I lower her enough for him to kiss her too, then his eyes lift to mine.

“Stay safe.”

“You too.”

His hand cups the back of my neck. He kisses me hard and quick, and then his forehead touches mine for only a second. “I love you.”

“I love you too. Come back to us.”

“I will.”

He doesn’t leave immediately. His eyes move over me, Damian and Darlene one last time, making sure we’re exactly where we’re supposed to be. Then he turns and disappears through the doorway. My wolf presses against me as I watch him go. Our mate will come back. He better.

I force myself to turn away from the doorway and focus on our pups. Darlene is squeezing Teddy so tightly his face is almost buried beneath her arm, while Damian is still holding the glasses he grabbed from his room.

“Mommy, I’m hungry,” Darlene says.

A laugh almost escapes me. Of course she is. “Come here.”

I find a place near the wall where I can keep both pups close and lower Darlene to her feet. When I pull the small bag from my shoulder and unzip it, Damian immediately leans closer. My phone sits inside with a small power bank and charging cord, water, wipes, a few basic supplies, and snacks for the pups.

Damian spots the snacks. “Can I have one?”

“Yes.”

“Me too,” Darlene says.

“You too.” I hand Damian his and help Darlene open hers because she refuses to release Teddy long enough to use both hands. Some habits from the rogue camp are worth keeping.

“How did they even get this close?”

My head lifts at the frightened question from somewhere behind me.

“I don’t know. Has anyone heard anything about the western side?”

“My sister lives over there.”

“Are they inside the territory?”

Questions come from different directions as wolves settle into the safe area. Some sound scared. Others are trying to calm their pups or contact family members. One older shewolf is praying quietly with her mate beside her.

Then another voice rises above them. “This is what happens when everything changes at once.”

My hand stills inside my bag. I look over my shoulder. An older male wolf stands several feet away with three wolves gathered around him.

“What do you mean?” a shewolf asks.

He shakes his head. “Silver Moon has changed since Rylan became Alpha.”

Another shewolf frowns. “We’re being attacked by rogues. What does that have to do with Alpha Rylan?”

“I’m only saying this never happened before.”
