Rylan and I are already faster.
We could be much faster.
But Candice and Zeke are still out here. Rogues could be scattered throughout these woods. We brought our warriors into hostile territory, and I can't leave them behind without knowing they'll make it home.
Arlene's heartbeat falters.
No.
I push more Alpha energy into her. Her heart steadies, but my legs grow heavier. I grit my teeth and keep running.
"Go."
Justin's voice enters the pack link.
I almost ignore him.
"Go," he says again.
Rylan glances at me. "Justin?"
"I've got the warriors. I'll make sure everyone gets back to Silver Moon. Just make sure the Luna and Beta make it."
The words hit me so hard I almost slow down.
Joshua.
Justin is Joshua's pup. Joshua is still missing somewhere, and we're going to find him. I'm going to bring him home. What the fuck am I supposed to tell him when I do if I have to explain that I left his son behind in rogue territory?
"Justin, I can't leave you responsible for everyone out here."
"You can."
"You're Joshua's son."
"I know who my dad is."
There's no anger in his voice. Just certainty.
Another weak beat pulses against my chest, and I send Arlene more energy.
"If something happens to you..."
"My dad trained me, Darian. You've trained me too. I can do this."
I keep running, but I'm still holding something back. Still listening for the warriors behind us. Still measuring how far ahead we can safely get.
Justin knows.
"Go save your mate. Your pups are waiting for both of you."
My breath catches. I look down at Arlene. Her face is pale against my chest, and blood covers my arms.
"Justin..."
"My brother and sisters are waiting for me too. We'll all make it home."
My throat closes.
