Selena grabs my arm. I look at her as her face tightens and one hand drops beneath her stomach.
“Selena?”
“I'm fine.”
“You don't look fine.”
“I'm pregnant, kidnapped, poisoned, trapped underground, and currently being shot at. I'm doing amazing.”
A laugh almost escapes me before another arrow slams into the wall beside us.
“Stay behind me.”
“I am behind you.”
“Stay more behind me.”
“That's not a thing.”
“It is now.”
A rogue gets past Darian and charges toward us. I shove Selena behind me and step into his path. He swings. I catch his wrist, twist, and drive my knee into his stomach. He grunts and folds forward.
My gaze catches on one of the wolfsbane tipped arrows scattered across the stone. I grab it.
The rogue barely has time to straighten before I drive the arrow into his neck. His eyes widen as his hands fly to his throat. I rip the arrow free and step back as he drops at my feet.
Don't leave them alive to come after you later.
My mother's voice is as clear in my head as if she's standing beside me. I stare down at the rogue for a second.
She taught me well.
Selena looks from him to me. “Rusty?”
“Shut up.”
Her mouth twitches.
Another rune flashes, and the stone beneath us trembles.
“Move!”
I grab Selena and pull her back as part of the wall crashes down between us and the males.
“ARLENE!”
Darian's voice pounds through the stone.
“I'm here!”
I shove Selena farther from the barrier as another section drops, sealing the passage completely.
“SELENA!”
“Rylan!”
Selena starts toward the wall, but I grab her arm before she can touch the glowing runes covering it.
