“He was teaching me all of that on purpose?”

Rylan’s jaw tightens. “Yes.”

“I wrote it all down.”

“You were supposed to be learning,” he says. “You trusted the wolf assigned to teach you.”

She closes the notebook.

“Then I need another tutor.”

“You’ll have one.”

Luna Selena looks at me.

“Darian?”

“Yes?”

“You were trained for this.”

I glance at Rylan.

Luna Selena continues. “Would you teach me?”

I look back at her. “Of course.”

“Good.” She holds out the notebook. “Because apparently I have a few things to unlearn.”

I take it from her.

Arlene looks at me, and there is something quietly satisfied in her expression despite everything that happened.

She was right.

Brennan had been deliberately teaching Luna Selena to surrender the authority that belonged to her.

Now Brennan is dead.

We still don’t know who put him up to it.

But whoever they are, they just made one thing very clear.

They are afraid of what Luna Selena will become once she understands exactly how much authority she has.

Darian is going through Brennan’s notes with me when I look up from my notebook.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Of course.”

“How did you know to come visit Arlene during my lesson? You usually don’t come by while I’m being tutored.”

His eyes flick toward Arlene. I turn to her. “What?”
