“I’m never leaving this chair,” I said.

“Eventually, you’ll get cold,” Grant said.

“Then you can carry me.”

He smiled. “All right.”

For a few minutes, I was content to sit there. My feet ached, but the drink was good, and Grant’s hand rested on my knee beneath the blanket.

“How was your day?” I asked him. “I barely got to talk to you when you came back.”

“Interesting.”

“Did you get your fishing gear?”

“We got what we needed.”

“Did Soren know where to take you?” I asked.

“Actually, yes. He knew of a woman named Vera, who sells all sorts of things, including fly fishing gear. Although we ended up delivering a goose to a woman named Marge.”

I lowered my mug. “A goose?”

“Ceramic. About this big.” He held his hands apart.

“Why?” I asked.

“Vera asked us to,” Grant said.

Across the fire, Jack started laughing.

“Are you telling her about the goose?”

“I’m trying.”

“Please tell me you took pictures,” Ivy said.

Jack reached for his phone.

“Oh, I took pictures.”

Grant leaned closer to me. “She came out to the van and put it in the front seat. Soren tried telling her we were on a schedule.”

“I’m guessing that didn’t work,” Madeleine said, laughing.

“He buckled it in,” Grant said.

“The goose?” Knox asked.

Grant nodded.

Jack passed his phone to Ivy. She looked at the screen, then burst out laughing.

“Send that to me,” Knox said.

“Send it to all of us,” Holly said.

A moment later, Grant’s phone chimed. He took it out and held it where I could see.
