Noah looked at Biscuit. “Do you know what she has planned?”
Biscuit wagged his tail.
“He signed a confidentiality agreement,” Claire informed him.
“Did he?”
“He placed his paw on it.”
“Legally binding.”
“Exactly. Now go.”
Noah disappeared toward his bedroom, taking his coffee with him. Claire checked the time.
They had twenty-three minutes to reach the diner. Twenty-two, if Noah insisted on locating the jacket he always left on the back of the kitchen chair despite claiming it belonged in the closet.
She glanced toward the chair. The jacket was gone.
Claire narrowed her eyes.
He was already becoming unpredictable.
Ten minutes later, Noah emerged wearing jeans, a dark sweater, and the expression of a man prepared to be entertained.
“Ready.”
Claire checked the time. “You’re early.”
“I didn’t realize that was possible.”
“I built in a seven-minute delay for you.”
“That’s insulting.”
“It’s accurate.”
She handed him Biscuit’s leash. Noah glanced down at the dog. “Are you coming with us?”
“Not yet. Mrs. Evelyn agreed to watch him for the morning.”
His eyebrows rose. “You involved Mrs. Evelyn?”
“She was the only person available.”
“You planned this weeks ago, didn’t you?”
Claire opened the apartment door. “No questions until breakfast.”
“That wasn’t a no.”
Noah recognized the diner before they reached the entrance.
He stopped on the sidewalk. “How do you know about this place?”
“You told me.”
“When?”
