“This is how you get off, don’t you? By terrorizing people?” I taunt. He attempts to take a step back, but I grab his shirt tightly in my fist. “Huh? You try to act tough, don’t you? So people don’t see the real you. But guess what, I know your little secret. I have a good eye for these things. Do your friends know? Or should I tell them?”
“Tell them what? You don’t know me.”
“Right, Because I’m pretty sure that necklace and your pretty watch are fa—”
“Okay, okay, stop. I’ll stop, I promise I’ll stop.”
“Apologize.”
“I’m sorry, I’m so sorry, I won’t say anything ever again.”
“Not to me, dipshit…to him.” I point to Carson, who’s staring at us with wide eyes.
“I’m sorry, man. You’re not a freak. Your eyes are uh—very unique.”
“Come on, you can do better than that.” I turn to his friends.
“Did you know that he’s actually br—”
“Stop, stop, I’ll do it, okay? I’ll be better.”
“Do it then, I don’t have all day.”
The man trembles underneath my touch, then starts rambling.
“I’m sorry, I’ll never say anything to you ever again. I’ll leave alone, I promise.” I nod, satisfied with his apology. I release my grip, smooth out his shirt, turn around, and walk towards Carson.
“Wait!” I look over my shoulder at the panicked stranger. “You won’t tell anyone, right?”
“If you leave him alone, I will take your secret with me to my grave.”
“Okay, I swear I will never say or do anything to him again.”
“Good. Then we have a deal.” I sit down on my towel, my feet sore again. Carson stares at me, his mouth still open.
“You’re gonna catch flies,” I tease, lying on my back, grabbing my sunglasses.
“That was my biggest bully growing up. How did you get him to apologize?”
I shrug. “I know something about him that he doesn’t want people to know.”
“What?”
“I can’t tell you. We made a deal. I can’t break it.”
The man, is one hundred percent broke, I can spot that fake watch from a mile away, it’s a miracle his friends haven’t noticed yet.
There is nothing wrong with wearing fake jewelry, but when you’re friends with a bunch of rich guys, it could be the end of the world.
I wouldn’t really tattle on him, then I would be just as bad. But I wanted him to believe I would, so he’ll leave Carson alone. “Well, thank you.” Carson rubs my arm.
“You’re welcome. Now, will you please hand me the sunscreen? My body is on fire.”
