Absolutely not.
That somehow sounds worse.
Before I can settle on an explanation, another message comes through.
It’s a screenshot.
I stare at it.
Then immediately groan.
My Instagram.
Specifically a picture from 2015.
Freshman year of college.
Me standing in front of a pumpkin patch wearing an oversized scarf that could’ve doubled as a blanket.
I actually cover my face with both hands.
Luke
For a second I thought I was the only one scrolling through the years.
Wait.
I stare at the screen.
Olivia
So you were stalking me too?
His reply comes before I can even lock my phone.
Luke
I was doing research. Totally different.
I shake my head.
Olivia
Pretty sure that’s exactly what stalkers call it.
Luke
Fair point. Guess we’re even.
I pull my knees up against the headboard, my phone still resting in my lap.
I’m thankful for the distraction.
Saying goodbye to Harper and Micah after brunch was harder than I expected. Not because anything was wrong. Quite the opposite, actually. They’re exactly where they’re supposed to be, building a life together in Ashen Mills, and every time Harper talks about that little town her whole face lights up.
I’m happy for her.
Really.
