Harper grabs my arm. “He just flirted with you.”
I show Micah the screen.
A grin tugs at his mouth. “He sure did. I like this guy.”
“We don’t even know this guy!” I say. “And I accidentally asked this stranger out.”
Harper looks delighted. “And he accidentally said yes!”
I stare at the phone.
Read the message again. Then one more time.
I don’t know what I expected.
Annoyance.
Confusion.
Maybe a polite correction.
Not someone who somehow managed to make the entire situation feel less embarrassing in two sentences.
I look down at the blinking cursor beneath my unfinished apology.
For reasons I can’t explain...I’m smiling.
And of course, Harper notices. “There she is.”
I look up. “What?”
“That smile.”
I lock my phone and set it facedown on the table.
“I know nothing about this man.”
“Well...” Micah takes another sip of coffee. “I guess we know one thing.”
I raise an eyebrow.
“What’s that?”
He smiles. “He likes coffee.”
Chapter 3
Luke
I pull into my driveway, shift the truck into park, and sit there for a second with both hands still resting on the steering wheel.
I should probably go inside.
Dottie, my grandmother, is expecting me home. Which means she’s probably already started lunch, and if Bo spotted my truck from the front window there’s a good chance he’ll come barreling through the front door before I even make it to the porch.
Instead, I reach for my phone.
Before I walk into the chaos, I want to see if the mystery woman who accidentally invited me to coffee ever texted back.
