“You only have to say the word if you want me to stop.”

“No. Don’t stop.” I almost laugh. I’m nervous, but this is Jordan. I trust him implicitly. And the last thing I want is for him to stop what he’s doing.

He locks his gaze on mine, and my breath catches as he drags my pink silk Victoria’s Secret underwear down my legs.

My entire body, from my tangled curls to my curling toes, ignites like a wildfire, and a heaviness settles low in my belly like a thick band tightening around my insides, begging for release.

With a shuddering breath, Jordan brings his lips back to mine for one last kiss before sliding down my body and positioning himself between my legs.

All rational thought flies out of my head as his hot mouth settles over the one place only my fingers have touched before him. With my heart beating out of control, I curl my hands into his linen sheets and hold on for dear life.

I can’t think—can’t even breathe—as my soul finally escapes my body to float into the stratosphere. I’m nothing but a jumble of feelings and sensations thanks to his skilled tongue working me into a frenzy.

My breasts tighten as the coil wrapping around my insides cinches tighter and tighter, building toward release. My heart swells, and I can no longer control my trembling legs or the sounds coming out of me. Every breath rasps past my lips in a series of rapid bursts until the dam finally breaks, sending me flying into the atmosphere like a million sparks of light.

As I slowly come down off the ceiling, Jordan crawls up my body, breathing hard as he lays beside me and drags me across his chest. His lips find my sweaty brow, and he lets out a satisfied sigh, though he couldn’t possibly be satisfied because I never even got a chance to touch him.

“Jordan—” I let out a breathy sigh, unable to find the words to convey the emotions swirling around in me.

“Shh.” He kisses the top of my head, then rests his chin on the spot. “Don’t worry. We’ll get there. We’ve got plenty of time, princess.”

Somewhere on the floor, lodged in the front pocket of my jeans, my phone goes off like a car alarm. Several incoming message alerts beep and vibrate in rapid succession. The notifications keep coming and coming . . .

And then Jordan’s phone rings. He doesn’t answer it, but as soon as the ringing stops, it starts again. And again a minute later.

With an apologetic smile, he gets out of bed and retrieves his phone from the desk where he left it, then flops down beside me again.

“Hey, Jenny, what’s up? Kennedy and I are hanging out. I was about to take her for something to eat.” He winks.

I lean toward his phone. “Hi, Jenny!”

“Sure, we can be there in a few minutes.”

I can’t hear her response, but Jordan frowns and climbs to his feet. “Is that really—no, I understand. I’ll take her home and come over.”

He hangs up, his frown deepening.

“Is something wrong?”

“I’m not sure. She needs me to come over there for a few minutes. Alone. I don’t know what’s going on, but it sounds pretty serious.”

“Oh. Okay.”

He takes my hand, lightly brushing his thumb over the cellophane at my wrist. “I need to go see what she wants. I’ll come back and pick you up after.”

“That’s fine.” I slip on my discarded underwear and hurry to my feet to retrieve my jeans as my phone goes off again in my pocket. Whoever it is can wait until I get home.

As soon as I’m dressed, Jordan escorts me through the house and back to his Jeep. He speeds the whole way back through town, all the way to my mom’s house, and pulls up to the curb but doesn’t shut off the engine. “I’m sorry. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

“I understand. Family comes first.” I force a smile as I get out. “Hurry back.”

“I will.” He doesn’t even kiss me goodbye, barely waiting until I’ve shut the door before driving away.

As soon as Jordan disappears around the corner, I unlock the door, digging my phone from my pocket as I head inside. I have a string of texts and missed calls from Nicole, so I dial her number first. I have a bad feeling that, whatever’s going on, she’s at the center of it.

“Where are you?” she demands.

I laugh. “Hello to you, too.”
