No.

I could not sink my finger into those indents. And I certainly couldn’t trace my tongue through those grooves either.

No matter how much the heat unfolding through me was begging me to do exactly that.

“Maggie?” Silas tried again. His voice was less confused and sleepy, but I was too distracted by my own desire to decipher what was suddenly laced between the syllables.

“I, um.” I couldn’t think straight. My neurons were firing off in a thousand different directions, all of them leading back to me on that giant bed with Silas’s body pressing me into the mattress.

“What are you doing here?”

What was I doing there?

“Is that for work?” He nodded toward the file in my hand.

Right.

Yes.

Work.

Work was why I was there. Not to wrap myself around him in bed and dig my heels into his ass so he would press more firmly against me.

“Yes!” That came out way, way too loudly. Then I went ahead and waved the folder around, making several of the pages fall out and drift to the ground.

I dropped down, gathering them up and sticking them haphazardly back into the folder. Only to notice a pair of pants in front of me.

Then I glanced up.

And, yep, there he was.

And there I was.

With my head level with a part of him I’d been doing way too much fantasizing about.

It was crazy how strong the urge was to reach out, grab the waistband of his pants, and drag them down and out of my way, to lean down and take him…

Nope.

That was not happening.

I gripped the folder more tightly, not entirely trusting myself.

I started to stand, only to have Silas grab me by the elbow to assist.

Damn him and his old-fashioned manners. I really did not need to feel his body on mine right then in any capacity. The coolness of his touch on my overheated skin sent a shiver slicing down my spine.

I yanked my elbow out of his hold the second I got to my feet.

“I’m assuming it’s time-sensitive if you are breaking into my home.”

“I tried to call you. And knocked.”

He nodded at that.

“Come on. Let’s go up and discuss it,” he said, moving past me toward the stairs.

“No!” I hadn’t intended that to come out like a shriek, but that’s exactly what happened.
