KEELY
I feel like it’s been too long. I’m pacing in the waiting room with the rest of the club doing the same. At least the women are. Most of the men are playing on their phones, most likely because they have no idea what could go wrong.
Thea sleeps in my arms as I pace. She’s been fed, changed, and watched the action in this room with all the people until she closed her eyes and fell asleep. Poor girl is tuckered out.
Turning my head, I look over at Juliette, who places her hand on her belly. She’s no doubt thinking about herself being in Chassis’s position soon.
I walk over to her and sink down in the chair next to her. I need to be beside her and just be there for her. This is how I can help in a situation where I’m fairly helpless.
“Everything’s going to be okay,” I whisper.
She turns her head, her eyes find mine, and she doesn’t even try to hide the fear behind them. It’s there, and it is intense. I don’t blame her. Having a baby can be a seriously scary thing.
“Is it?” she asks, her voice barely above a whisper.
I give her a small smile. “It is. They know what they’re doing, and Chassis is so damn strong. She’s going to be just fine.”
Juliette opens her mouth but promptly closes it when there is a commotion. Both of us turn toward that commotion, and that’s when I see three younger bikers and one older biker, all hot as shit, walk through the door.
The men greet them, so I can assume they’re safe, but I have no idea who they are. Until Juliette tells me.
“They’re Chassis’s brothers and father,” she murmurs.
I shift my focus back to Juliette and lift my eyebrows. “Wow,” I exhale.
Juliette laughs, and the tension is somewhat cut, at least for the moment. “I know. Seriously, I don’t know what is in the water where all these guys were made, but I didn’t know biker guys could be so hot. And yet…”
“And yet here they all are, in one room,” I point out the obvious.
“No shit,” she mutters.
Our conversation dies, though it’s mostly because we start to watch the dynamics around us. And those dynamics are these four men and everyone else who surrounds them. The oldest one, Chassis’s father, has an air about him. He’s definitely the man in charge.
“Is he powerful?” I ask softly. “Like more than Dare?”
“Oh yeah,” Juliette mutters. “He’s the president of the original chapter. It means he’s the most powerful of all the MC presidents. What he says goes.”
I can tell that he’s the man, the only one who means dick in this room, and he knows it. His kids do, too. I watch as a woman practically floats into the room behind them a few moments later. She looks every part like a hippie chick. Her style is out of this world. She moves past everyone and sidles up to one of Chassis’s brothers. He wraps his arm around her, tugging her close to his side.
They look like they’re a completely opposite couple, but it also works for them. Then I hear a voice rise, a voice I recognize. Shifting my focus over to Brock, I blink when I realize his voice has risen as he speaks with Chassis’s father.
“Oh, shit,” Juliette hisses. “Something big is going on.”
I watch them, and I can tell that it’s a heated argument. I’m not sure the vibes they’re putting out are what they should be right now. This isn’t the place for negativity. This is a happy time and a happy moment.
“Well, there is some shit going down,” Elodie mutters as she sinks down in the chair across from mine.
Alex is close behind her and sits down beside her. His eyes widen as he shifts his focus from the two men arguing to Juliette and me. He leans forward, placing his elbows on his thighs. We do the same, shifting forward in an effort to hear whatever it is he’s about to tell us.
“I talked to Fantasy when that argument started, but he didn’t have much to give me. Clearly, something big is going on, and I know it’s probably club business, so we’ll never know, but damn do I want the tea,” he murmurs, keeping his voice low so the rest of the room doesn’t hear us gossiping.
I want the tea, too, all of it. Every single ounce, because whatever is going on, my husband isn’t happy about it. He plants his hands on his hips, tips his chin, and looks down at his boots before he lifts his head and shakes it from side to side.
He’s irritated as shit right now.
I watch as he opens his mouth, but nothing comes out, because a nurse steps into the room and all attention shifts from those two to her. She’s smiling. It consumes her entire face. And then she makes an announcement.
“It’s a boy. Mom and baby are great. They’ve asked me to come out and update everyone. When they’re ready, Dad will come out and get you for visits. We just ask that you only come in groups of three or four.”
