“I’ll beat yo’ ass,” Benji gritted out.
Tahji smiled tauntingly as he replied, “Whenever, wherever, big brother.” He replied unseriously.
“While the three of y’all dumb asses fight each other, I’ll reach out to the leader of the Second Region to see if they have any information on Dante. See if you can ask Quinny what his last name is,” our dad said, rising from his seat.
“I got you,” I replied. Like Benji, our dad liked to talk shit too. However, in his older age, he slowed down on his shit talking.
“We gone pull on Dante tomorrow or nah?” Tahji asked.
“We ca—” I started to say but was cut off by our dad.
“No, you can’t. Don’t forget Regina’s birthday celebration is tomorrow, and I want you both to bring your soulmates with you. I want to meet them.”
“Okay, so the day after then?” Tahji asked a little too eagerly. I was starting to think Benji wasn’t lying when he said what he did about Koa.
“That’s fine,” I answered, giving Tahji a side-eye.
“I’ll be there,” Benji responded.
“And at Regina’s party too.” Our dad gave Benji a hard stare. He knew Benji didn’t fuck with Regina and would most likely not show up.
“I hear you, old man.” Benji sighed.
“Don’t just hear me, listen for once,” our dad said, shaking his head at Benji’s hardheaded ass. “Y’all can get out of my house now,” our dad said, pointing to the door.
He didn’t have to tell me twice. I wanted to go back to Quinny anyways.
Chapter 15
Quinny Parks
I had been waiting anxiously by the phone since I woke up this morning. When Kenji came home last night telling me what his brother said about Sutton calling me in the morning, I was so happy I couldn’t sleep. If Kenji hadn’t put his tongue to use, I probably would have stayed up all night waiting on Sutton to call me. I might not have seen Sutton every day, but we damn sure talked every day. My main concern was making sure she was okay. I believed Kenji when he said Benji wouldn’t hurt my sister physically. For whatever reason, I trusted Kenji’s words. Still, I needed to hear Sutton’s voice before I’d calm down. However, while Benji might not hurt Sutton physically, there was something going on with him. Kenji thought he was slick and I didn’t peep his demeanor when I tried to ask him questions about Benji and Sutton. I wasn’t dumb, and I knew the two of them were trying to do some slick shit. They might have been vampires but they were still niggas. When it came to my sister, I was fucking everything up behind her, and if Benji thought he was finna play with her, he had another thing coming. As soon as I figured it out, I was definitely going to put my sister up on game.
“Staring at the phone isn’t going to make her call you any faster,” Kenji said, standing in front of me shirtless. For him to be an old-ass vampire, his body was covered in tattoos. His torso and arms barely had any visible skin left. Had it been any other nigga besides Kenji, the tattoos would have been a turnoff. I preferred my men to be more clean-cut, but Kenji made me like stuff I didn’t usually like.
“How many tattoos do you have?” I said, setting the cordless phone down on my lap. My eyes roamed his deeply defined chest, trying to see all the tattoos I could make out.
“I stopped counting after I hit 150,” Kenji replied.
“When did you start getting tattoos? I know you couldn’t have had all these tattoos your entire life.”
“Nah, about twenty-five years ago,” Kenji said, closing the small gap between us. He was standing right in front of the couch, looking down at me. His white eyes weren’t glowing. I was learning that his eyes glowed when he was feeling strong emotions towards something. “I actually hated tattoos at first. Benji and Tahji used to get tattoos, and I thought they were dumb as fuck for getting them.” Kenji’s lips turned up into a slight frown.
“Yet here you are with over a hundred tattoos,” I giggled as I gave in to my urge to touch Kenji. My fingers glided over his belly button, which was an outie, then I traced the outline of his eight-pack, finally rubbing his chest.
“Funny how that works. I thought my soulmate was a tattoo artist.” Kenji had a lopsided smile like he was recalling a memory, and I didn’t like that shit. His eyes flickered when I snatched my hand from him. I glared at Kenji as he said, “Turns out I was way off, but I enjoyed my time and learned how much I loved tattoos.”
Kenji had me fucked up if he thought I was finna sit here and listen to him swoon over another bitch. I stood up on the couch, bringing my eye level to Kenji’s big stupid ass. “Why don’t you go be with whoever that bitch is and leave me the fuck alone!”
I found myself becoming insanely jealous when it came to Kenji and other females, when I was never that type to care that much about another bitch. I was confident in myself, and despite me being bigger, I always knew I was that girl. If a nigga wanted another girl, it didn’t bother me because they weren’t for me. With Kenji, though, that thought process didn’t work for me. Just thinking about him with another female had me ready to fuck him and her up. Like right now, I wanted to slap the shit out of him for even mentioning another female being his soulmate. Kenji let out a low laugh like he took me as a fucking joke. My fist clenched, and I had to tell myself not to hit him. I didn’t care if he was a fucking vampire; I was convinced I could fuck him up.
He cocked his right eyebrow up. “You wanna fight me?” Amusement was all over his face, his eyes dropping down to my clenched fist, then back up to my scowling face.
“Fuck you, Kenji,” I mumbled, hating that I was feeling so intensely over Kenji. I barely even knew his ass. Just a couple of days ago, I was running for my life from him. Now I was ready to fight him for talking about another female. I had to be losing my mind.
“If it makes you feel better, she’s dead,” he cockily replied.
“I don’t give a fuck,” I gritted out. Hell no, it didn’t make me feel better. I didn’t want Kenji to want anyone else besides me.
