Brock snorted behind me, lazily flipping through a magazine in the corner chair.

“If you have something to say, why don’t you come over here and say it,” I bit out.

“There’s only one person Edu’s afraid of, and I don’t think calling her right now is going to solve anything.” He flipped another page, not bothering to look up from the Playboy he was perusing.

“Will you put that away? We’re in the hospital!”

“And?” he asked, peeling the corner of the magazine down just enough to look at me.

“And you’re looking at porn!”

“Hey, this is not porn,” he argued. “I’ll have you know I’m reading their jokes section right now.”

“While you’re staring at naked ladies!” I said, storming over to grab the magazine.

He snatched it away from me, shooting me a dirty look. “Well, what the hell else am I supposed to do while Cinderella is sleeping?”

“You could be helping me!”

He snorted in amusement. “Sure. I’ll yell at him with you. That’ll really move things along.”

“It could.”

“It could also be a gigantic waste of time.”

“Okay,” Scottie Dog said as he shoved the curtain aside and strolled inside, flopping down at the foot of the bed. “I think I’ve convinced Quinn that everything’s okay.”

He sat up and shoved Edu’s feet to the side, taking more of the bed for himself.

“Quinn?”

“Yeah, you know. My wife?”

I pinched the bridge of my nose in frustration. These guys were driving me insane. Why couldn’t I just have a normal team? Maybe Thumper or Slider.

Then again, Thumper was constantly losing his bionic leg for the mission, and Slider liked to throw knives with Fox, so maybe they weren’t the best options.

“Why are you worrying about your wife? You’re not injured!” I shouted.

“No, but still…we’re not coming home on time. Dude,” he snorted, “get it together.”

“Let me break this down for you so you understand this,” I hissed. “Your wife doesn’t matter right now. You’re not injured. That man,” I pointed at Edu, “your teammate, is currently in the hospital and won’t wake up.”

He peered over his shoulder, then looked back at me with a bored look on his face. “I understand. Do you think I’m stupid?”

“At the moment?”

“Look, we’re building a fire here—”

I threw up my arms, walking away from my insane teammate. “Not this again.”

“Don’t you see? We’ve got the kindling— that’s Edu. And we have the spark— that’s his injury. What we don’t want is to tell Harper anything. That would be like throwing gasoline on the fire. And we do not want to burn down the whole forest of Christmas trees.”

“What the hell are you talking about?” I screamed.

“Dude,” he snorted. “I’m talking about our situation. I thought that was pretty clear.”

“What’s pretty clear is that you’re insane! Your friend is in the hospital, and you called your wife and reassured her instead of his!”
