He couldn’t very well blurt out that he loved her. He had to show her that he did. And he would, starting with laying everything out on the table about his family and the fact that he had a trust in his name with millions of dollars in it.
A trust he wasn’t sure he wanted.
Damon walked into the kitchen and laughed at what he saw sitting on the kitchen countertop. He glanced over to where Margot stood, looking delectable in her knee length black pencil skirt that, if she turned around, he would bet hugged her ass, and that would test his resolve. Her burgundy long sleeve blouse accentuated her long brown hair, and made her green eyes pop.
She looked sexy, and it was going to take everything he had not to drag her back to his bedroom and forget about his resolve to bare his soul to her.
“Pizza?” He leaned against the fridge, crossing his arms over his chest. After their first lovemaking session, he’d brought the pizza boxes to the bedroom, where they’d had their fill.
“You once said that cold pizza was the breakfast of champions. Were you lying?” She widened her eyes to look innocent, but the cheeky smile was anything but that.
“I’m not sure if I said it was the breakfast of champions, but it is a satisfying one. Although,” he closed the distance between them and placed an arm on either side of her, effectively surrounding her and trapping her against the kitchen counter, “I can think of something that would beat pizza for breakfast.” He leaned down and kissed the spot where her neck and shoulder met. A place he’d discovered the previous evening was an erogenous zone for Margot. Her soft moan had his cock hardening immediately.
Instead of hoisting her up on to the counter and ravaging her, he placed a chaste kiss on her lips before stepping away and grabbing a piece of pizza, and taking a big bite, all the while watching Margot, noting the rise and fall of her chest and the luscious pink color in her cheeks.
If she looked down, she would see how affected he was by her closeness, her floral scent, and the sexy outfit she was wearing.
Was it new? He didn’t think she’d worn anything like that to work before, because he was sure he would’ve noticed. And they’d spent all their time together recently and she hadn’t gone shopping.
“Is that outfit new?” He voiced his thoughts once he’d finished his pizza slice.
“Yeah I got it a couple months ago, just haven’t worn it. Do you like it?” There was a vulnerability about her, as if she wanted his approval, but at the same time, was trying to give off a sex kitten vibe. The combination of both was doing nothing to quell his desire for her.
“I like it a lot, and believe me when I say, I’m having trouble keeping my hands to myself.”
She picked up a slice of pizza trying to hide her satisfied smirk, but she wasn’t successful, and he started to laugh. “You, my Little Pearl, are a vixen.”
Margot shrugged, accepting his words as the compliment they were. They ate in silence, standing in the kitchen, such a casual domestic scene that Damon wanted to capture it with a camera, so he didn’t forget this moment.
He wanted to always make her this happy.
Chapter
Nineteen
Margot closed the empty boxes and sat at the table, waiting for Damon to take a seat opposite and talk to her. She had no idea what he wanted to tell her, but he’d made it sound so serious.
Had something come through overnight about the person after her that wasn’t good news?
He may not have looked at his phone after she’d woken up, but there was a chance he may have glanced at it before.
Yet somehow she didn’t think what he was going to tell her involved her directly. Maybe indirectly, it did. What that could be, she had no idea.
Damon had never been a nervous person, he couldn’t be with his job, so the way he was acting now was baffling.
“Do you want something to drink?” he asked, as if he was wanting to avoid starting the conversation.
“I’m good. And how about I tell you I’ll listen to what you have to say without judgment. Will that make it easier?”
In answer, he took the seat opposite her. “Do you recall that woman who came into the office about a month or so ago, and wouldn’t give you her name?”
“Yeah, I’m not going to forget her. She was rude and looked down her nose at me, as if a woman working was a mortal sin.” There’d been something about her that hadn’t sat right with Margot, and when she’d walked out, without even acknowledging her, Margot had decided she hoped she never came back again. “You said she was your aunt, right?”
“Yeah, Marion. She’s my dad’s sister. That was the first time I’ve met her.”
“Really? Why?” Margot may not have a close relationship with her parents, but she at least knew who her aunts and uncles were, along with her cousins. At the time when he’d told her in the breakroom she was his aunt, she hadn’t given it too much thought why he didn’t want to see her.
“Both of my parents were estranged from their families, because neither side wanted Mum and Dad to get together. They thought they were too young, but my parents believed in their love and decided that if their families weren’t going to accept them, then they wanted nothing to do with them.”
