“For what? Did you send yourself these pictures? Write that note yourself?”
The was nothing sinister about the questions, but she reared back as if she’d been slapped. “What? You think I did this?”
“Of course not,” Steve said calmly. “I’m trying to determine why you would feel the need to say sorry when you’re clearly the victim here.”
“But,” she pointed to the picture of her standing out the front of Tabitha’s café, “I’ve put Tabitha in danger. I know that’s the last thing you want.”
“Am I pissed that someone took a photo of you there? You bet the fuck I am. Not only because of Tabby, but because of you. You’re one of us, Margot. We all,” he pointed to the men sitting around the table, “take this personally. Someone is coming after one of our own. We’re not going to take this lightly.”
Of course he’d say something like that. The men in the room were protectors. It was why they’d initially gone into the Army, and why they did what they did now. She wasn’t privy to everything that went on in Power Security, but she was more than aware that they worked closely with Bayden from the Australian Federal Police, on missions that took out the scum of the earth. Recently, they’d also started working with a security company in Los Angeles who worked with the FBI to do the same thing as what Power Security were doing.
“I don’t understand any of this,” she said, after a few seconds.
“We’ll get to the bottom of this, Meg,” Damon gave her hand another squeeze. If anyone in the room was surprised with the nickname he’d given her or the fact he was sitting so close to her and holding her hand, they didn’t say anything. Not that she expected them to.
“Okay, let’s break this down.” Steve got up and picked up a couple of the photos. “It looks like they were taken by a drone. They’re not that quiet. I know this is going to be hard, Margot, but can you give us an idea of when these photos may have been taken? Or if you can recall hearing anything?”
“They can go high, and the person operating them can zoom the camera in. We didn’t hear anything when those photos of Indigo were taken on Rottnest Island,” Wilt said. “I doubt it’s connected, by the way.”
“But it’s something we need to consider,” Damon muttered. “We never did find who helped Louella in getting the photos of Indigo on Rottnest Island.”
“We didn’t, but it is something we can put down as a point of interest. In the meantime, let’s focus on what we have here.”
Steve placed the two photos he’d taken in front of her. They were of her at the gym and the grocery store. She studied them, looking at what she was wearing, trying to recall which day they may have captured her.
The gym one was easy, she hadn’t been in the last couple of weeks, so she pointed to it. “This one was taken about three Saturdays ago. That was the last time I went to the gym. The one of me coming out of the grocery store, could’ve been any time. I go once a week.”
As much as she didn’t want to, she picked up the photo and took a closer look. She was wearing leggings and a white crop hoodie. “Okay this was taken within the last month. I know because of the top I’m wearing. I haven’t had it that long.”
“Okay so we have a starting point.” Steve nodded. “Wilt, can you get and review the backups of Tabby’s security system for the last month, and see if you can find a date and time when this photo was taken.”
“Yep, I’ll get on it now.” He pushed away from the table, wincing a little when he moved his shoulder.
Steve turned to her. “I know this isn’t going to be easy, but I’ll need you to look at the rest of the photos to see if you can remember anything about the locations. If there was someone hanging around.”
“Okay, I’ll do my best.”
Steve gave another nod toward her and a chin lift to Damon before he exited the room. Reed and Andy came up to her and gave her shoulder a squeeze as they walked past her on their way out. It was just her and Damon still in the room, her hand securely enclosed in his.
Damon reached over and picked up the note, scanning it, as if it was able to give him the answers he wanted. “Do you know what this person is referring to?”
She didn’t need to look at the note, the words were imprinted into her mind. “I have no idea. I haven’t witnessed anything sinister, except…”
No, it couldn’t be, could it?
“Except?” Damon prompted.
A shiver wracked her body as the memory of the day she and Narelle were taken. The day she was shot and Camille had been gunned down in front of her. She’d thought she had imagined it, but maybe she hadn’t. “I think I saw the person who shot Camille.”

Damon’s blood chilled at Margot’s words. “What do you mean you think you saw them?”
Her fingers flexed around his, and he was glad they still had this connection. It had been natural for him to sit closer to her and take hold of her hand. Margot’s face when she’d walked into the room had been whiter than when he’d seen her while she’d been suffering her migraine. It had been an automatic reaction to pull her into his arms and offer the safety net she so clearly needed.
He hadn’t given a fuck that all his friends would see him holding her, after the day she’d been sick, they were all aware that his feelings for her weren’t the same as theirs toward the receptionist. Surprisingly, not one of them had given him a hard time about it.
