“Yes, seriously. And I won’t take no for an answer.”

“Why are you doing this?” he asked softly.

I had to take a moment to consider it. “You need a break where you’re not drunk. Then you can figure out what to do.”

He raised an eyebrow. “So, you’re being nice?”

“And I have a feeling I can watch them better than you can. So let me prove myself right.”

The issue with giving Gabriel time to figure out what to do is that I had to figure out what to do with the kids. I figured my friends wouldn’t want to see me, so I took them to the park for a while.

Little did I know, they were planning on finding me.

I should have seen it coming when I saw Mollie’s adopted oldest son, Eric, join the two girls on the playground. But Mollie usually was on the farm.

Then I was grabbed and tugged against a tall body.

“Have you lost your mind?”

“What the—Wren?” I tried to get away, but she was ridiculously strong. “What are you doing?”

“This is an intervention you can’t run from.” Mollie stepped in front of me, arms crossed. “Don’t worry. Cain and Henry are watching all the kids.”

“You should worry about Cain and Henry,” I said before trying to get out of Wren’s hold again. “Goddamn, how does Henry hold you down?”

“He’s way stronger than he looks. And so am I. What are you doing, Jade?”

I stopped and huffed out a breath. Then I turned my head and licked Wren’s neck.

“Whoa!” She let me go and wiped at where I’d gotten her. “Did you lick me or bite me?”

“Wouldn’t you like to know?” I straightened my shirt. “I will play dirty. Do you want Henry to see?”

“You’re evil,” she said with a shake of her head.

“You ambushed me.”

“Hey!” Mollie said as she pushed in between us. “We’re here for a reason.”

“Yes, I know. An intervention.” I sighed and crossed my arms. “Where are Piper and Grace?”

“Grace is at work and Piper was worried a fight would break out.”

“For good reason,” Wren muttered. “Why was your lick so wet?”

“I’m just wasted lesbian potential.”

“Jade, don’t change the subject. We’re all worried, even if we’re not all here.”

“I know,” I said. “And I promise I’m not being an idiot.” Both women raised an eyebrow at me. “That much of one,” I clarified. “But I know more now. I can’t do nothing.”

“What could you possibly know?” Wren asked. “He’s a bad dad and he left you.”

“I won’t argue with the second one, but the first . . .” I sighed. “Sit down. I’ll tell you everything.”

We all sat on the ground. I checked on Agnes and Beatrice, only to find them chasing Cain with a stick. For the first time ever, he looked scared.

Jasmine, Mollie’s daughter, was hurriedly hunting for a stick to join in with.
