He sputtered something about smart choices before he threw on a shirt. I never moved.

“You’re a fucking menace,” he said as the bed dipped with his weight.

“But I’m your menace.”

Robert Colt: First day of school megathread. Ask for advice, vent to us, do whatever as your kids go to school!

Comments:

Jason Mullins: I cried. My child did not.

G Singh: I had a friend help me and she calmed them down. I almost cried.

Robert Colt: A friend did all that? Whoever she is, keep her.

Jade’s Goodies had a mix of everything, but mainly candles and crystals. The air smelled like a rich concoction of scents that I couldn’t place.

Atticus had once described it in detail to me, but he left out how this place was so very her.

I’d waited too long to come here.

“So, you can visit me.” Jade came around a corner carrying a massive box.

I grabbed it for her. “I can. I’ve been meaning to. It’s nice in here.”

“It’s a mess,” she said. “I need more profit so I can hire someone to do the boring work for me.”

“Or you could have me do it for free.”

She raised an eyebrow. “Really?”

“It’ll make up for how long it took me to come in.”

“Tempting.” She put a hand on her hip. “But I don’t take freebies. You can get free candles out of it.”

“I don’t need anything for free. I’ll do it to be nice.”

“Oh, fine. I’ll take advantage of you then. Just because you insisted.” She pointed to where the box went and led me to the wall of shelves holding crystals. They all had handwritten signs that described what each one was for.

“Jade for patience,” I said, looking at a crystal. “Does this mean you’re patient?”

“Blue jade for patience,” she corrected. “And my hair isn’t blue right now, so fuck you.”

I laughed. “You’re right. At least the crystal looks cool.”

“That’s why I’m so obsessed with them.” She laughed. “A few are mixed up from customers, plus I have more to put out. Think you can help me?”

“Yes, ma’am.”
