For a second, I simply stare at her.
“Seriously?”
Victoria laughs softly as she adjusts Leonardo higher on her hips. “Very seriously. Lorenzo apparently left Mario’s office like the building was on fire.”
My hand flies to my mouth.
“Oh, my God.”
The news pushes every LLC and property transfer straight out of my head.
“Is she okay?”
“So far,” Julia says. “Lorenzo called Ricardo after he got to her. They were heading to the hospital.”
I look between them, suddenly grinning. “I thought she had more time.”
“She did,” Victoria says. “Apparently the baby had a different opinion.”
Leonardo squirms against her, already more interested in the room than the conversation. Victoria lowers him to the floor, and he immediately heads toward the nearest piece of furniture with the determined wobble of a child.
I look at both toddlers and then back at them. “You brought the whole nursery.”
“Diego wanted someone here with you,” Victoria says as she follows Leonardo at a reasonable distance. “Mario called me. Ricardo called Julia.”
That explains the timing.
I should probably be annoyed that Diego arranged supervision from across the city.
Instead, I am too distracted by Donna.
“Has anyone heard anything else?”
“Only that they made it to the hospital,” Julia says. “We’ll know more when we know.”
I laugh because that sounds exactly right.
Victoria lowers herself onto the sofa and reaches for Leonardo before he can get too interested in my laptop. “Mario said the meeting may run late, so we thought we’d keep you company.”
I glance toward my laptop.
The ownership map is still sitting there, half finished.
Part of me wants to reopen it immediately.
A much larger part of me wants updates on Donna every thirty seconds until somebody says the baby is here and everyone is fine.
Julia catches the look. “Were you working?”
“Yeah. Diego gave me something to keep me occupied.”
Victoria looks toward the screen. “You seem very excited about it.”
“You try sitting here for weeks with nothing to do. It's a threat to my sanity.”
“You're right. I don't think I could do it,” Victoria concedes.
Leonardo reaches for Victoria’s necklace, and she gently redirects his hand toward a toy from the bag beside her without missing a beat.
