“I'm telling you now.” He reaches for his slice again.
I snatch it out of his hand.
“Hey.”
“You have lost pizza privileges.”
“That seems cruel and unusual.”
“You are secretly having me followed.”
“Protected,” he corrects. “And it wasn't a secret.”
I point the half-eaten slice at him. “If you say that word again, I am throwing this at you.”
His mouth twitches.
I am not amused.
Well.
I am barely amused.
Mostly I want to strangle him.
“Who?” I demand.
“My people.”
“Who?”
“Blair, cara,” he says calmly. “You wouldn't know if I said.”
“That was not the question.”
Diego leans back into the couch and studies me for a second, apparently realizing I am not going to let this go.
“It's a rotation, but mostly it’s Giacomo. He is one of my best. You would never know he was there unless something happened.”
“Something did happen. I got nauseous at a showing, and somehow you heard about it before I got home.”
His brows draw in again. “That did concern me.”
“You know what concerns me? Finding out that one of the owners of the company I work for has someone following me around the city.”
“This has nothing to do with Meridian.”
“It has everything to do with you having resources most people do not have and apparently deciding you can deploy them around me whenever you feel like it.”
He exhales through his nose.
I fold my arms again. “No.”
His brows lift. “No?”
“No, you do not get to do this without talking to me first.”
“I wanted to make sure you were safe.”
