I want a lot more than that.

But there's something else.

I find where my errant assistant has gone and stop beside her.

“Who is that?”

Myrna stops tapping on her phone.

“Who?”

I don't point.

“That woman by the column.”

“There are six women by the column.”

“The one in the dark dress.”

“Still not narrowing it down.”

I cut her a look. Myrna follows my gaze more carefully this time. I know the second she finds the right woman because her entire demeanor changes.

Her mouth tightens. Then she makes a little sound.

“Oh.”

Something about that oh bothers me.

“What?”

“The fat one.”

Fury hits so fast it surprises the fuck out of me. My head snaps toward her.

“What did you just say?”

Myrna doesn't flinch. Which is one of the reasons she's lasted as long as she has working for me.

She's efficient. Smart. Capable of juggling six disasters at once without breaking a sweat.

She also has a thing for me.

Has for years.

Neither one of us has ever acknowledged it. There was no reason to.

Myrna is my employee. I'm her boss. That puts her firmly in the category of women I don't fuck.

Period.

I've never flirted with her. Never led her on. Never blurred the lines between us. I've kept our relationship exactly where it belongs.

Professional.

If she occasionally gets territorial when another woman catches my attention, I've ignored it because, until now, it's never interfered with her job.

This? This is different. And I'm considerably more pissed off about it than I should be.
