“Then Chavez and I can settle our unfinished business.”
My stomach drops.
“You're going to kill him.”
“Keep your mouth shut.”
“You can't just keep killing people because they know what you've done.”
He comes closer.
“I said shut up.”
I press my lips together.
For now.
I hear a motorcycle in the distance.
Just one.
My father moves toward the door, gun in hand.
The other man takes up position beside the side entrance.
A moment later, Torch steps inside.
The sight of him nearly breaks me.
He's wearing his cut, a thick envelope in one hand. His brown eyes find mine immediately.
They drop to the ties around my wrists.
His jaw tightens.
“Let her go.”
“Evidence first,” my father says.
Torch looks at him.
Then at his uncovered face.
I see recognition hit.
“You son of a bitch.”
My father smiles.
“Hello, Chavez.”
“You were supposed to be dead.”
“Disappointed?”
Torch's expression turns murderous.
I need him to know.
