Autumn plants a hand on her hip. “Well?”
Tripp points at her and his mouth opens but nothing comes out. She looks at me, and I rub a hand over my jaw.
“You in denim should be illegal.”
“You’ve seen me wear jeans before.” She grins.
“Jeans aren’t as tight, short and whatever this design is.”
She laughs.
“I’d like the record to show I was emotionally unprepared for this,” Tripp finally says.
“You knew I was changing.”
"I didn't know you were changing into that."
She rolls her eyes and reaches for her purse. "I look fine."
"Fine?" Tripp repeats.
"Fine."
I stand and grab my wallet. "You're gonna get us in a fight."
Autumn's jaw drops. "I am not."
"You absolutely are."
"With who?"
I look at her, then down her body, then back at her.
She points at me. "You're being dramatic."
"That's rich coming from you."
She mutters something under her breath that sounds suspiciously like ‘jackass.’
The smile pulling at my mouth is impossible to stop. The funniest part is she honestly has no idea what she looks like, or maybe she does. It's hard to tell with her sometimes.
The three of us head downstairs together, and the second we step into the lobby, I spot Briggs leaning against a wall looking at his phone.
He glances up and freezes. His eyes about bulge out of his head, and he licks his lips. He hurries to cover it up, but I see it, and so does Tripp. Judging by the way Autumn suddenly looks very interested in fixing her hair, she sees it, too.
Briggs shoves his phone into his pocket. "You ready?"
That's all he says.
Autumn's smile falters for half a heartbeat before she recovers.
"Yep."
The bar itself is already packed when we get there. Music spills across the room, mixing with laughter, and the crack of pool balls from somewhere near the back. Every table seems full of people celebrating the end of the rodeo. Competitors, still wearing buckles they'd won that afternoon, crowd around the bar while waitresses weave through the room balancing trays loaded with beer bottles and colorful cocktails.
The second we sit down, Autumn picks up a drink menu.
"Oh no," Tripp says.
