Unable to resist anymore, I smooth my hands over his pecs, above the bruises. “That’s not how categories work.”

“Then make a new one.”

I freeze. “What?”

His teeth graze the shell of my ear. “Make. A. New. One.”

The words land one at a time. “For what?”

His lips skim over my cheek to graze the corner of my mouth. “For me.”

My brain stalls.

At my silence, Kain straightens and lifts the prescription bottle between us. “You want these because you don’t think I’m allowed to take care of your Heat anymore.”

My feet rub the backs of his thighs, wanting him to move again. “That’s not—”

“Yes or no.”

I swallow. “Yes.”

His jaw tightens. “And if I weren’t hurt?”

I don’t answer.

“Reef.”

“I don’t know,” I say, the words cracking.

“Bullshit.”

“It’s not bullshit.” I thump a fist against his enticing chest. “The quest log is glitching. The objective keeps changing. I don’t know the rules anymore.”

“I do.”

The answer is immediate.

Absolute.

I stare at him. “What?”

Kain grips my chin, tipping my head back as his musky Alpha pheromones wrap around me, and my body reacts before my brain can classify any of it. “I know exactly what we’re doing.”

“Then tell me.”

“You’ve always said roommates don’t kiss.”

“Yes,” I breathe.

“And neither do pets, I’d assume? Or nurses?”

“Correct.”

“And you’re not out of your mind with your Heat yet.”

I shake my head slowly.

He lowers his head. “Then we’re changing the path.”
