The baby shoves hard into my side, and I immediately press my palm over the spot. “Ow. Your dad is giving me enough problems right now. You could maybe take the night off.”
Scout snorts beside me.
I look back at Trace’s laptop just as another observation appears.
“So they’re done with the bad part?”
“Half of it.” Trace glances over at me. “They still have to cross the other side of the eyewall.”
My stomach drops right back down. “And then what?”
“Depends on the mission, but they’ll turn around and make another pass through the center.”
I stare at him.
Scout stops with a stolen chip halfway to her mouth. “Wait. They do this more than once?”
Trace nods. “Usually quite a few times.”
I look back at the little trail crossing the eye.
Scout’s eyes go wide. “You have got to be shitting me.”
A laugh slips out of Andie beside me, but I’m too busy trying to disassociate from reality.
I knew going in I’d have to watch him do this again and again. I’ve done it before.
It’s just never felt like this, and I don’t know what to do with all the anxiety buzzing through me.
I groan.
This is going to be a really relaxing night.
The next few dots carry them through the other side of the eyewall, and when Trace finally says they’re clear, I sink back into the couch.
My shoulders ache from how long I’ve been hunched forward, and I feel like the real-life version of that it’s been eighty-four years gif.
Around me, everyone starts moving again. Ellie checks her phone, Tatum gets up to refill her drink, and Scout reaches for the blanket she kicked off earlier and drags it over her legs.
I shift around, trying to get comfortable again, and pressure hits low in my bladder.
I close my eyes.
Seriously?
Scout catches the look on my face. “What?”
“I have to pee again.”
Scout looks up at me and winces. “That kid is really making the most of the space in there.”
“No kidding.”
I brace one hand against the couch and push myself up. There’s so much pressure low in my pelvis now that I have to stand there for a second before I can comfortably start moving.
By the time I pee, wash my hands, and make my way back down the hall, Trace is leaning toward his laptop again.
I stop beside the couch. “Already?”
