Klair gave me a look.
“She’s very pretty,” I admitted.
“Okay. So are you.”
“That wasn’t my point.”
Klair rolled her eyes at me. “Nope.”
“What?”
“We are not doing that tonight.”
“Doing what?”
“Comparing your entire life to a woman’s Instagram grid.”
“I’m not. Everything I found is public information.”
“You need a hobby.”
She held up two dresses. “Black or green?”
“Black.”
“Of course.”
“What’s wrong with black?”
“Nothing. You just dress like you’re going to either close a deal or attend a funeral.”
Thirty minutes later, I was dressed, moisturized, perfumed, and pretending that I wasn’t nervous.
Klair stood behind me in the mirror. “You look good.”
“I know.”
“There she is.”
“What?”
“Confidence. Keep her.”
She grabbed my shoulders, pushing me towards the door. “Go have fun.”
Nash was already there when I arrived. He stood when he saw me. I hated traditional gestures right up until a handsome man did them correctly.
“Hey,” he said.
“Hey.”
“You look beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
I sat after he pulled my chair out. I almost checked his left hand again. Okay, I did and thankfully there was still no ring.
“You good?” he asked.
