I shook my head. “He did, but I knew he was married.”
A tear fell. “So I couldn’t make myself innocent just because I eventually found out I was also being lied to.”
Nash stared at me then he walked toward the window. His back was to me.
Finally, he spoke. “I’m trying really fucking hard not to put my ex-wife’s face on you right now.”
My heart broke a little. “I understand if you do.”
He turned. “I didn’t say I was going to.”
I stopped.
“But you have to understand why this shit is hitting me the way it is.”
“I do.”
“I was on the other side of this.”
“I know.”
“I know what it’s like to find out someone you trusted was living another reality while also coming home acting normal.”
Tears slipped down my face. “I know.”
“And I’m not going to sit here and tell you what you did wasn’t fucked up.”
I nodded. “It was.”
“You knew enough to know there was a possibility that everything he told you was bullshit.”
“Yes.”
“And you chose not to look.”
I closed my eyes. “Yes.”
When I opened them, he was watching me.
“But that’s also why I’m confused.”
I frowned. “About what?”
“Why the fuck were you so scared to tell me?”
I stared at him. “What?”
“You’ve been acting weird over this?”
“Yes.”
He laughed.
“Nash, this isn’t funny.”
“No. The situation isn’t.”
He walked back toward the couch. “But you sitting here acting like you’re about to be sentenced to twenty-five to life is a little dramatic.”
