“Why?”
My fingers tightened around the phone. “Your husband made me uncomfortable.”
“What do you mean?”
I closed my eyes.
There was no pretty way to say it, so I didn’t try.
“He touched my lower back, but I moved away. He complimented my appearance and offered me wine. I declined. Then he told me you didn’t have to know everything.”
She said nothing, so I kept going.
“When I tried to leave, he grabbed my arm.”
Her inhale was sharp. “He what?”
“It wasn’t violent.”
I needed to make that clear.
“He didn’t hurt me. But I told him not to touch me.”
“Blair—”
“And when I said I was leaving, he became concerned about me telling you.”
I could hear movement on her end of the phone.
“Where are you?”
“In my car.”
“At my house?”
“Yes.”
“Is he there?”
“Yes.”
“Stay there.”
“Caren—”
“I said stay there.”
The call ended.
Fuck! I looked at the house and Derek had disappeared from the window. Thirty seconds later, the front door opened and he came outside. I locked my doors again even though they were already locked. He walked toward my car, and I lowered the window so he could hear me through the crack.
“Back up.”
“You called her?”
“Yes.”
“Are you fucking serious? You’re blowing this shit way out of proportion.”
