That did it. He left.
I stood until my knees gave out. I called Klair from the bathroom floor.
She answered immediately. “Hey.”
I tried to speak.
Her tone changed. “Blair?”
A sob ripped out of me.
“Blair.”
Klair had known I was pregnant. She wasn’t happy because she understood immediately what I had refused to do. A child would tie me to Caleb forever.
When I told her I’d scheduled the termination, relief had crossed her face before she could hide it. I hated her for that for about five minutes. Then understood.
Now I couldn’t breathe.
“I did it and he left to go tend to her!”
“I’m coming.”
“Klair—”
“I’m already getting my keys.”
“Please.”
“I said I’m coming.”
The call ended and I curled into a ball. The bathroom tile was cold against my cheek.
Klair found me there twenty minutes later. I know because she told me afterward.
She walked into the bathroom and froze. “Oh, Blair.”
I fell apart again. Klair dropped beside me and pulled me into her arms.
I grabbed her shirt like I was drowning.
“I hate myself.”
“No.”
“I hate myself.”
“No.”
She held me tighter.
“I killed my baby.”
Klair pulled back immediately. “Don’t do that.”
“I did.”
“You made a decision.”
